MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'd like to nominate Mort by Terry Pratchett.

Mort is the first book in a trilogy about an apprentice reaper.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I'll nominate Scythe by Neal Shusterman.

In a world where death has been conquered, people are selected to be scythes - the only people who can end a life, and are commanded to do so to prevent overpopulation.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well... I have one, but I'm not doing re-reads this year... so... Gah!

It's The Devil You Know by Mike Carey, which I really enjoyed. I'll nominate it anyway and maybe join in the discussion even if I don't re-read it. Assuming it wins.

Description: Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stamping ground. It may seem like a good ghost buster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle--but there's a risk: Sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him. While trying to back out of this ill-conceived career, Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London - just to pay the bills, you understand. But what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the Who Can Kill Castor First Show, with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize. That's OK: Castor knows how to deal with the dead. It's the living who piss him off...

Nyssa | 2023 comments I couldn’t find a nomination to match the theme, and I already know which of the two previously nominated that I would like to read.

You know, I never finished this one! I was about 25% in when I stopped. No real reason why. I'm a squirrel. ;-)

Ala | 469 comments A Dirty Job

Dude gets a job offer: Death. It's Christopher Moore so should be funny.

I feel like I should've read this one already but somehow haven't.

This is one I've been told to read for awhile. And, it's Piers Anthony, who should be on our shelves.

Its about a corporate network of grim reapers, and how it all goes sideways when the boss goes missing

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Hey all!

One of the biggest struggles for Goodreads group Moderators is member engagement and participation. Members can engage with small things like games or miscellaneous discussions…but the biggest tool a Moderator has for member engagement are Group Reads/Book of the Month (BotM).

Group Reads/BotMs are important because:

It’s a Bookclub! Hello!!

And because BotMs are so important, reading an unpopular (for the group) book for the month can really hurt member participation. And that makes sense…no one is interested in forcing themselves through a book they have no interest in.

Which brings us to Flights of Fantasy: The Purge

If you don't plan to discuss the book of the month, please don't vote. Those members who do vote AND vote for the winning novel(s) and don't participate in that discussion will be purged from the group.

Why? Because members who DO participate are deservedly becoming upset. They are consistently outvoted on books they WANT to read by people who do not take part in book discussions. This is not fair to members who want to participate.

This will go into effect starting this June 2019 with this vote.

Please NOTE: Members who do not participate in discussions for books they did not vote for and had no interest in reading will NOT be purged. Members who participate regularly but simply miss a few group discussions will NOT be purged.

Who is most at danger of being purged? Members who do NOT participate in group reads or discussions but still vote for the monthly group reads that win. If you have 0 comments in group and have no plans to change this, you should NOT vote for group reads.

Please post or PM if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Flights of Fantasy Moderators
