For book review #7 I chose to read “My Father's Dragon” by Ruth Stiles Gannett. It was filled with lots of chapters but each chapter ended with a cliffhanger and kept me entertained and interested. I loved reading this book because it was fun to read about Elmer’s encounters with all the animals on the “Wild Island”. I also enjoyed how Elmer went to “Wild Island” in order to rescue the dragon and left his house but only to help set free this dragon. I liked this book because it had almost only animals as characters which was different than the books I read when growing up. I appreciated how this book had lots of images to keep me and the other readers engaged. Along with this, it was fun to see how Elmer used all the things that the cat suggested him to bring because a lot of them didn’t make sense to me when I first read when the cat mentioned them to Elmer. Each chapter explained how Elmer used an object to get by an animal. One of my favorite relationships in this book was the relationship between the dragon and Elmer because they both help each other and solve their problems as a team while being supportive. This book reminded me of the movie “Princess Bride” because the whole movie is based on a story that the father is telling the son which is the exact same as in this book with Elmer telling a his son this story.
