Sagar Thapar The book, Amal unbound by Alisha Saeed is about a young girl Amal who lives in Pakistan and has dreams to become a teacher when she grows up. However, her dreams have to take a back seat after her mother gives birth to Amal's 4th sister causing Amal to need to stay home and away from school to help around the house. Amal helps her family by staying home from two weeks from school and asks her father if she could go back but sadly he says no and tells her to stay home for a few more days untill her mother is healthy. A frustrated AmalAmal Unbound as the days go by decides to take a walk one day to the local market by herself to take sometime to herself. She picks up all the necessities her family needs and then gets one extra piece of fruit that she wants, a pomegranate. AS she walks away from the local market to return home Amal is hit by a car and all her food is knocked out of her bag. Right away the man comes outside and scolds Amal for "hitting his car". Amal who is already furious quickly collects her stuff and ignores the man. However, Amal realizes that she doesn't have her pomegranate and quickly tries to snatch it out of his hand but he resists. Amal at this point is done with everyone and everything and erupts snatching the pomegranate out of his hand and yells at him at the top of her lungs. Unfortunately, this was the worse action Amal could have commited and when she goes home she later realizes that the man she yelled at was the richest, meanest and most powerful man in the village. Lastly, the man Jawad comes by later on that week and demands Amal's family to give her over to her to work because they owe him money and because of the disrespect Amal showed to him. Amal realizes that if she doesn't find a way out that she is going to be stuck in this place for too long to the point where she can not become a teacher.
I would definitely recommend this book to other people because the author does many things very well in the book. The author has many points where she keeps the reader on a cliff hanger in order to make sure they keep reading. Also, the book helps show the reader another unique story and perspective on how some people are living on the other side of the world. Read the book to find out more about Amal and her story.
