Kathryn F What Light by Jay Asher follows Sierra, the daughter of Christmas tree farmers in Oregon. Every year, she and her parents travel to California in order to sell the trees, staying there from November until the holiday season is through. This year, a boy named Caleb has begun to regularly visit the lot, purchasing a new tree each time he comes. When Sierra’s interest piques, her friend Heather proceeds to warn her of Caleb’s dangerous past. Despite what Heather said, Sierra starts a relationship with Caleb and strives to see the good in him and help him find redemption. With his ominous reputation causing their relationship to be looked at with disapproval from those around them, Sierra and Caleb have to fight in order to find their love.
I absolutely adored this book. Going into the story, I was hoping it was going to have one of those cute, cheesy storylines that you would see on the Hallmark channel, and I was not disappointed. The dynamic between Sierra and Caleb was perfect and I found myself not being able to put this book down. It also reminded me a lot of other novels that I’ve read by John Green, which if you love romance novels I’d recommend as well. This is the second book by Jay Asher that I’ve read for my semester reading list and I’m so glad it was able to be the last. It was absolutely my favorite and ended this assignment on such a high note.
