Michael Gardner | 192 comments As I started this discussion, I realised just how bad I am at marking reviews as helpful (or not) on Amazon.

Amazon rewards popular reviewers with badges. You will have seen them, they say things like Top 1000 Reviewer and the like. Every time I've had a review from one of these reviewers I see a spike in activity because people follow popular reviewers.

Getting a badge is based on helpful votes. Perhaps we should all be more active in marking reviews on Amazon to propel ourselves up the reviewer rankings. I think we all write really helpful reviews. It has to be a win /win.

David Rose | 104 comments Absolutely, Mike. It makes a real difference. I try - maybe not consistently enough - to have a look at several reviews where I feel a book has earned the attention, and mark a few of the most constructive reviews as helpful. For good books, and bad ones!

I do this as well--find a few of the best reviews whenever I'm posting my own review to someone's book and mark them as helpful.

Also, I tend to like to click on links when members post reviews and "like" those great reviews. Some people seem to only post a link to their GR review, which is probably because our friend the Zon has been so slow to load lately, but I know when that link is there, it's super easy to scoot on over and vote helpful as appropriate... because you're right. We write great reviews here!
