Charlie (theduke-456) | 55 comments History is perhaps the most important subject. History informs perspective on everything.

Yes I do. We have had two world wars and there could be a third one coming. People are just stupid and power hungry.

Charlie (theduke-456) | 55 comments No I do not agree. History sometimes rhymes, but it does not repeat.

A Third World War is highly unlikely. Right now is the most peaceful time in human history, as the data has demonstrated. If there is going to be another major conflict on the scale of the world wars, it will be between China and the United States. Yet the likelihood is that they will have a new Cold War. Every war since 1945 has been localised and not global. Wars going on now have not spilled into global conflicts. Today, the world barely cares about Russia’s war in Ukraine, or the Saudi war in Yemen.

ReeshiReads (reeshi) Yea it is the most peaceful time in human history which is really great but I'm just saying anything could happen.

Austin | 17 comments What do you all think about the right of the conqueror?

The idea is basically if two nations go to war and are both ethnically different. If one nation wins and settles the looser nation, then the looser people are integrated into the winning culture. And destroying the loosing culture.
Examples of this are:
Norman invasion of England
British expansion in america
Muslim conquest of the Romans
Roman conquest of Guals
Mugal invasion of India
Alexander conquest of the Persians
ect

Austin | 17 comments Like many empires through out history were militarily successful. That shaped the modern world we live in. There is nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Like for example, the land we call Turkey or Anatolia. was for most of human history Greek. Then in the twelth century the Turks coming from Turkmenistan area. Went to Persia, converted to Islam and invaded the Romans who lived there. The Romans were unable to defend against these invaders and had their lands resettled by the Turks. These people lived here for one and half millennia. But lost their ancestral lands to the invaders. Now when we think of Turkey we think of Islamic Turks living in "their" land. When it was really Greek before it.

the same could be said for the Americas.

Austin | 17 comments Sorry I am in college and love to study these things for fun. The idea here is that if you disregard the right of the conqueror, then Turkey should be given back to the Greeks. Even though less than 5% of the population is still Greek. And by the same token, America should be given back to the natives. Even though they make up a very small minority.

The world is alot more complected than we like to make it out to be.
