Pease add any books that you have read / taught to year 2!

Dr Dog by Babette Cole.

I partially taught this to year 2 on SBT2. As well as reading and writing the children learnt about how to keep themselves healthy (science), hygiene, what to do if something is not right or they are not feeling very well and how to prevent certain infections.

In terms of writing the children wrote their own version of Dr Dog and personalised the story to fit whatever characters they wanted to include. They also changed the medical problems of the characters. The children took time to plan this, discussing ideas with peers and the teacher, through drama and speaking and listening.

Before starting to read the book, the children came in for a day dressed as anyone who works in the medical profession. They had a parent, who worked at a hospital, come and talk to the children about their job, what they have to do and how to stay healthy on a daily basis.
