Free Comic Book Day

I've gone along to A1 Toys in a shopping mall in Glasgow which is near where I live for the last two years Free Comic Book Day's. I always wanted to take the day in, but it wasn't till a few years ago that I realised it was a thing here in Scotland as well as North America. There's never been any additional activities, tbh the store is predominantly a toy and collectibles store so I guess there is less demand for that sort of thing there. I know there is a specialist comic store in Castlemilk on the outskirts of Glasgow called Red Hot Comics, and if I can make time perhaps I'll take a trip there this year and see if they make more of an event of the day.
I always forget 😂😭 Around this time a couple years ago I got a free Venom poster (still on my wall today) at my local comics store since they already had some freebies out
I have no idea which shop I'll go to - St. Louis is truly spoiled for choice! There are at least 3 I'm considering :P
Here in Athens (Greece) we go to Star Comics, in the North. It's been many years and brings exclusives too, along with signings! ;) Occasionally we visit also Relax (Your Soul) in the center or Jemma in Piraeus. And of course it's a great day to bring comics to friends that usually not read!
My local shop, Monarch Comics in Toledo OH, does a great job with families especially on FCBD. There is a loyal group of cosplayers who show up every year and take pictures with everyone while we wait in line. There is a local radio DJ who does a remote from the shop during the day as he's a regular customer there too. There's pizza and cookies about 1/2 way through the line for everyone to keep up their stamina as they hit the home stretch which (smartly) winds you through most of the store before you hit the checkout counter with all the free books. It's an amazing way to introduce new readers and younger readers and they have a really fun, exciting vibe all day. I love this holiday.
I love how widespread this group is, and hearing about FCBD in Glasgow & Greece is especially cool! Comic book stores are definitely special places, and I love that you have a few options to choose from, Erin! Are they close enough that you can hit up a few or all of them? We actually do have a couple of comic book stores in Salt Lake, but I have pledged my loyalty to Black Cat forever, so it's an easy choice for me.
In Athens Star Comics is at the Northeast, to the Airport and Jemma Comics is at the South, near the port of Piraeus. Most Athens' comic shops are in the center (5) and are near to each other, but only the half of them have FCBD and do not have much variety because most go there and fcbd issues finish quite early.
I'm going to miss it because I am away in the middle of nowhere...Luckily I talked to my comic book shop and they are going to put away some stuff for me! :)
Holy cow, folks from all over the globe are getting in on this!! I LOVE IT! I'm going to try to go to 1-2 shops here in NYC -- specifically in Brooklyn.
We're going to do a big ol' episode about FCBD this weekend, so if you pick up anything good let us know before Sunday (May 2) at 2pm!

I will be hitting up my favorite local comic book store--Black Cat Comics! They're such a phenomenal store and realistically I give them perhaps too much of my money, but I'm okay with that ;) They often arrange signings with artists and because Free Comic Book Day often means a whole lotta new people come out of the woodwork and there are insane lines--they plan for that and will have our local School of Rock students playing various superhero themes/songs featured in the films. ♥
I've never found anything super new/exciting at FCBD, but I love going to support my LCS (I usually spend money while I'm there!) and the free comics often get distributed to friends or used for art purposes!
