I'll attempt to read along this month's book, I'm usually intimidated by big old Si-Fi books. If it wasn't for this challenge I wouldn't even think about trying to read it.
I will be joining too! This is waaaaay out of my comfort zone... let’s see how it goes ;-) I think I will get it on audiobook.
This has been on my tbr for waaay too long, so this seems like a good opportunity to finally read it!
I'll definitely be joining this month! I've been wanting to read this one for a long time! Good luck, everyone!!
I planned to read this book for a few months now, we’ll see if it’s available in my library and if I’m motivated (it was so looong finishing Life after life, not sure I’m ready yet to start a big book I’m not sure to like 🤔)
I'm really excited you picked this - and super jealous over the edition you have. I've had it on my shelves forever. Now I just need to finish my current book, Shamus in a Skirt, and I can start tackling this one!
I've always waned to give Dune a try. I'll have to check the library and see if they have a copy available.
I always wanted to read Dune but felt intimidated by it. I hope it live to its hype. downloaded the ebook version so I don't feel overwhelmed by it's size and put it down.
Yay I'm so happy that Dune got picked! I started reading it during Tome Topple Round 8 and I'm currently halfway through. I could use some community reading spirit to keep me at it :)
I‘ve wanted to read this for the longest time, so I‘ll try to get to it this month. Just have to finish my current books first.
I am very excited to finally read this one (I actually have the SF Masterworks edition, haha). I've just finished reading Holy Sister this morning so the timing is perfect.
I will join in as I have all the others. It has been a mixed bag for me so far. Just started Dune tonight, or should I say I tried to look through the glossary of terms....ok I am usually all on board for big books. In fact, I tend to love them most, but this glossary has me feeling more apprehensive than I would normally be. Anyone else nervous?? 17 pages of terms to familiarize myself with and I am not into the content of the book yet. 😮 Here we go.....
I've tried to read this before without success. But I am interested what people think so I'll be watching the thread.
Picked it up at the library because it was there not wholly committed to it, but I read the first few pages...and is it too early to say I think I’m going to love it?! I’m finishing up another book at the moment, but I keep eyeing it on my bed stand. I also listened a sample of the audiobook and it sounds amazing. It’s got a 6 week wait list on it though...
Just got my copy in the mail today:) Indigo has that beautiful penguin cover that Emily has.. I needed it!!
at the end of my copy there is something like a dictionary - a glossar i believe - which explains the technical terms. when i find something like that in a book which is not from a genre i usually read - i read this part first, still trying to avert spoilers. getting all the information even fanned my curiosity.i believe this will be huge and Sci- Fi is a genre which i hardly read, but i have a feeling this book could make me reconsider.
I've wanted to read this for ages, so definitely joining in. I've stolen my brother's paper copy because I generally prefer hard copy for big books.Would be interested in seeing what others think of it!
So I am 19% in and my Ebook reader (Kobo) is writing that it’s going to take me around 11 more hours to finish.I am really enjoying myself so far and so happy that this book is working for me after the last 2 month (life after life & the secret history). Cannot wait to be done and know the end :)
I have my Dad's old ratty paperback from 1965, so I'll be joining in for this one. It's been on my shelf for far too long anyway. My Dad really likes this series, so I'm hoping I will too.
I'm 160 pages in now. I thought it had a slow start, but the plot is starting to pick up now. I don't know how I feel about the extensive fictional vocabulary though. Hopefully I'll be able to keep reading straight through without checking the glossary..

Hopefully it'll get easier as the story goes.
Anne wrote: "I just started it yesterday and am about 50 pages in, and I completely agree about the vocabulary. It's the one thing that keeps throwing me off. I still need to check the glossary occasionally, but now that I know the most common words it's easier to get immersed in the story. It helps that the plot gets way more interesting around page 200, lol. I think the book should have started with the Atreides family landing on Dune.
Does reading Dune make anyone else super thirsty? And then feel kind of guilty for drinking so much water? Hahaha
Half way though and finding it does get better after a slow start. Lots of politics and terms to learn before you can start enjoying the story
