Susie Another graphic novel that I picked up from the library on a whim, and another memoir that I enjoyed! I have added it to the history folder as I believe it fits the tag as the history of a person.

Stitches tells the story of Small's childhood growing up in Detroit with parents who had little time for him, so much so that they failed to notice that he had a growth on his neck, and then failed to treat said growth, leading to Small having half of his vocal chords removed. I found the illustrations perfect for the story, and I doubt that it would have been as well told without them. They were haunting and emotive. There was a great balance between illustrations and text. Not a happy story, and certainly not one for kids, I do recommend it if you have any interest in graphic novels.
