July 2019's Theme: Magic. This theme is intended for books with a LARGE amount of magic in it OR magic must be the book's focus (includes Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror and/or YA/MG)

In order for your nomination to be valid, the PLOT and/or Main Characters must have a LARGE amount of magic OR magic must be the book's focus. No magical realism type stories.

-Must be either a standalone, 1st in a series or a series THIS GROUP has already started
-CanNOT be a book that this group has already read. (unsure which books FoF has read? Check the Group Reads Index)
-Can be SF, Fantasy, Horror, YA/MG
-Must be available in formats that all members can access

Ha! I just noticed this group has not read the Kate Daniels series.


Clearly, this needs to be rectified. My nomination: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. Magic Bites is a story set in universe where science and magic cannot co-exist. The balance of magic/science has been thrown out of wack and now swing back and forth between extreme magic and 0 magic. This allows magical creatures like weres and vampires to live.

Ick. Well I WAS going to nominate a book that my mom had recommended to me... but then I read the reviews that compared it to Blood Song. So that's a nope from me.



I'll second Magic Bites, since I own that series and haven't read it.

And I'll nominate The Devil You Know by Mike Carey, because it didn't win Death Magic, but maybe it'll win Magic Magic (even though it's still Death Magic.)

I'll nominate Spellmonger, where the MC is a warmage that has retired to the countryside to live in peace. But the goblins are mad and their mages are stronk. Our hero has to be more clever and get stronger than them, OR DIE (Dun dun duuuuuuuuuun!)
