Abrum Folsom I’m reading a book called Independent Study, the first book out of a two book series. The author of my book is Joelle Charbonneau, a woman that writes mainly dystopian books. This book is set in a post-apocalyptic time where every country has destroyed each other with nuclear warfare. Malencia Vale (goes by Cia), the main character of my book, had been chosen to go to Tosu City for The Testing. This is an incredible honor, as the smartest students of their home colonies are selected for this. It’s not what she had expected though. During the first four stages of testing, many would kill others to take out your competition. Plus, if one fails their test, they get “redirected” or otherwise killed. The final stage of testing was the most gruesome. Every testing candidate that had survived the previous stages was put into a wasteland, and they must make it to the other side without being killed by others, animals, or the environment. Cia had barely made it back to Tosu City, but her testing was far from over. Others I would recommend this book to would be those that like post-apocalyptic first-person dystopian books. Personally I loved the story. I love reading dystopian books, it puts me in a place where I can envision the situation the characters are going through.
