Rebecca (rebecita) Anyone else finish this one??? It was a super quick read for me and my housemate also picked it up after I read the first chapter to her. (She's an honorary hooman and often reads our book club picks!) Not the most amazing prose but we both thought the worldbuilding was intriguing. It really made us want to know more about the setting - like, wait, they're not in Japan? What's going on!

I also really enjoyed that the protagonist jumped on board super quickly with her secret Chosen One mission! There wasn't a typical arc where she was torn between her romance vs. her destiny or something. She just straight up tracked down her badass sword, told her guy to move in, and started making bold political decisions.

Overall a solid fun read, and an easy book to recommend since the e-book is free across multiple platforms.

I'm slowly making my way through it. Haven't had much time to read it. I'm only about a quarter through.

I just finished it. It was a slow read for me and struggled to grab me. It wasn't until the truth of her background was revealed that I really got into it. But, once it picked up, I really enjoyed it.

Rebecca (rebecita) Glad you finally made it through and came back to comment! It was rrrreally not the strongest writing that's for sure! The worldbuilding is what stuck with me most. Even though the eco-dystopian setting seems to be getting more and more common...

Honestly, my favorite parts of the book that kept drawing me back in were the food/eating scenes, which is funny because the most recent episode of Writing Excuses was about including food in writing.
