Of the five Austen novels that I've read, I thought Persuasion was the most predictable. That said, I enjoyed the story anyway because Austen writes characters so well.

Unfortunately, I had other books to read, so I’ve just started this one. Yet I believe all Jane Austen’s novels are quite transparent, and you might guess in the very beginning what is going to happen.

That's a good point! Personally, I was somewhat surprised by the endings of two of Austen's novels because they featured couples that would be considered unacceptable or questionable today. However, that's more of a reflection of my ignorance about this period in history than the plot of the novels.

It's probably more precise to say that I found the events in the middle of Persuasion less interesting than in the other books I've read by Austen.

I see your point, and I myself at first was kind of taken aback when I read about cousins getting married and that sorts of things. But now I’m so deep in period drama that I’ve just got used to it. Although I wish I read more similar books as I love this period so much!

I believe the most thrilling novel by Jane Austen is Northanger Abbey – it’s quite mysterious and even adventurous. (As well as the film, I love it a lot! It’s so funny!!!) But the rest of her books are more or less slow-paced. However, I haven’t read Emma yet, maybe it leaves a different impression.
