6. "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." Ciszek launches a defense of the human body, against that strain in Christian asceticism that tends to despise the body. "I think it is wrong" he says. "It is Gnosticism and Manicheism and Catharism and Albigensianism... and every heretical tendency that sees matter as evil and the flesh as prone to evil." I think he is right, but what do other readers think? We have dicussed this question in St. Catherine of Siena's biography and St. Anthony Maria Claret's autobiography, but there's nothing wrong to consider it again, this time from the opposite point of view.
