It's time to start thinking about fun tasks for the Summer Challenge.

The bonus theme is Characters: Rogues

As in past challenges, some tasks may revolve around the seasonal theme of summer. Others may reflect the bonus theme. Other tasks may have nothing to do with either of these themes, they’re just fun ideas for unique reading challenges.

Feel free to post as many ideas as you can come up with. Don't worry about repeating what another player might have already suggested. The more ideas, the better!

The moderators will draw from these ideas as well as their own to create the 5, 10, and 15 point tasks. This thread will be open for ideas until May 16. Summer tasks will begin to be posted onMay 18. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Donna | 1271 comments Here are famous lines of some well known Rogues:

Shaken not stirred: author named James or the letters BOND in title or #7 in a series:

I have a bad feeling about this: Sci-fi mpg, or a book with a hairy pet as mans best friend or a book about a pilot

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn: southern fiction mpg or civil war mpg

Go ahead, make my day: book about a police officer or SUDDEN IMPACT in title or first letter of title words.

Hast la vista baby: you could do something fun with TERMINATOR or ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

Donna | 1271 comments Then there are also the bad guys who turned good:

Grinch: green cover
Ebenezer Scrooge: book with ghosts
Danny Ocean from Ocean 11, Ocean 12, Ocean 13: true crime or about a heist,
Darth Vader: a book with a dad as a main character

Read a book with Travel as the MPG

Wanda (wanda71) | 1770 comments The Summer Reading months are June, July, and August which are respectively the 6th, 7th, and 8th months. Read a book that is either the 6th, 7th, or 8th in a series.

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments I see "rogue" misspelled as "rouge" all the time. We should have a task that pays homage to this with either some part of the background, the title, or an object on the cover in red (your choice, all three would be too easy).

ETA: Since the bonus theme is actually "rogues" maybe we should list all three and the task is the cover has to contain at least two of those elements in red (title and an object, for example).

message 14: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments A lot of people take vacations during the summer. A book whose title initials or author initials can be found in the phrase SUMMER VACATION.

message 18: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments For some graduates, summer is spent preparing for their freshman year of college (or trying to squeeze in as much fun as possible beforehand). Read a book whose author initials appear in the phrase OFF TO COLLEGE.

message 19: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments July 4th is American Independence Day. Read a book with the word "four," "for," or "fore" intact in the title, or that is the 4th book in a series.

message 20: by Aprilleigh (last edited May 15, 2019 04:32PM) (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments July 4th is often celebrated with fireworks. Read a book that has all the letters in BANG somewhere in the title.

message 21: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments Fireworks, a hallmark of American 4th of July celebrations, were invented in China. Read a book set at least 50% in China, or that was written by an author who is Chinese or has at least one Chinese parent.

message 24: by Aprilleigh (last edited May 15, 2019 04:41PM) (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments When the northern hemisphere enjoys summer, the southern hemisphere enjoys winter. Read a book whose title contains two words that could be considered opposites. (Examples include Fire and Ice, Dead and Alive, The Open and Shut Case, Up the Down Staircase, Highs, Lows, and Plateaus, etc)

message 25: by Aprilleigh (new)

Aprilleigh (aprilleighlauer) | 1261 comments When I was a little girl, my grandmother insisted that white shoes were only worn between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In other words, only in the summer. Read a book whose cover has the title in white.

message 29: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne | 950 comments Summer is opportunity for:
1) travel and visit family and friends: For me that means travel to Seattle to visit my grandbaby, Washington DC where my son lives, visit Belgium to see my parents, brothers and sisters there. Book set at least 50% in one of those places.
2) travel and explore archaeological sites - my husband and I can spend from opening to closing time on a single site: an archaeological site or historical site ( at least 1,000 years old) on the cover.
3) When it rains, the visit museums and art galleries: work of art on cover. Or use famous art piece titles for either author or title initials.
4) play tennis: book by female author initials in TENNIS or athlete on cover

This list was used in the Spring Challenge. I'd rather see a new list, if necessary.

I like this one.

Kathy KS | 2419 comments Many summer vacations involve flying. Unfortunately, some states are often termed "flyover states." But those of us that live there are proud to.
Read a book that takes place in one of the states mentioned in 5 Flyover States That Deserve a Closer Look : Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, Missouri, or Arkansas.
