I'm so torn about whether I'll be voting for this or Circe for best fantasy! I love them each in different ways.
I think I'm going to try and listen to the audiobook for this one. I really want to read all of the books on the Fantasy shortlist and I loved Foundryside and Circe, but unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of Red Sister so I'm a bit nervous this book might put me in a slump. Hopefully I enjoy this one more than the first book!
I really enjoyed this one! I like the storyline and it has sucked me in. Not a fan of some of the more violent scenes (the donkey scene in Red Sister still makes me sick). I'm hoping to move on to Holy Sister once I get through all these books for the SFF awards list!!
I am a little over half-way with Grey Sister, and while I was also deeply disturbed by the Four Foot scene in Red Sister (it stopped me giving the book 5*) and admit the violence picks up in this book; it is so well written that i am wholly sucked in and keep turning the pages. Also the friendships in this are everything to me. Nonas loyalty is inspiring especially considering how dark this world is and how little good she witnessed before (and some may argue since - Tacsis family feud) joining the convent.
I (very sadly) didn't enjoy Red Sister as much as I hoped and I don't think I would have finished it if it weren't for Helen Duff's narration - Mark Lawrence's writing style isn't for me, sadly. That said, I do love his characters so I've been listening to Grey Sister and I am enjoying it more than Red Sister so far - pretty sure my vote will still be going to Circe this year, though!

I personally read this last year on audio (as that’s how I’ve read the whole series) and love the narrator so I highly recommend if you enjoy audiobooks.
Enjoy!
