A Wheel Of Time Read Along discussion

Again, my apologies for being late. I had a death in the family but I'm back now!

Is it just me or does this read along seem to be going fast? We're already on book three, The Dragon Reborn. Cool title!

Here is week one. Please leave your comments on what you thought of prologue through to chapter 14 below.

Jason, trust me on this: you never have to apologize for a death in the family interfering with other commitments.

It is very considerate of you to mention it as a way of explaining things to us, though.

I just finished chapter 14. Quite enjoying it so far. Nothing too groundbreaking has happened yet, but I like that the characters are becomming more powerful. The scene at the start with Rand causing an earth tremor was great, and I like how he is being treated as an almost religious figure.
The storyline of Egwene and Nyeneave hunting the Black Ajar could become interesting too.

I really enjoy the Egwene and Nyneave hunting black Ajah as well. It really adds to how the characters are getting stronger.

I’m only on Chapter 6 because I’m having difficulty with continuing. I keep reading other books instead. And the more I do the more I’m repelled by the whining, self pity, and just plain rudeness of the Two Rivers boys. Rand and Perrin’s negativity in this book so far is tiring me already. If I were Moraine I would’ve told them to go kick rocks long ago. How long until they grow up???

I think The Dragon Reborn was the worst for this, especially on Perrin’s part. Book four, The Shadow Rising was truly where this series started picking up for me. There’s still whining but it’s much less. Some exciting things begin to happen in Shadow Rising as well.

Lol thanks Jason! Glad to know I’m not the only one that noticed it. I will hold out for it, and hope I don’t punch the book too many times.

Jeez guys, remember they are very young. Takes a while to absorb "end of world" reality. Besides, as much as I like Moraine, she is not very forthcoming with details. ROFL

Yeah, these folks are so distrustful of each other and waste a lot of time in the process of keeping secrets from each other. Frequently necessary for plot advancement but ugh, tiresome to read through at times.

I am reading The Dragon Reborn right now for The One Readathon to Rule Them All. So, I haven't completely given up on reading this series. I just completely failed at my goal of reading one book a month. Is it weird to post in here sssssoooooo many months late? I am only 5 chapters in so far, but will update again when I get further in.

I am really happy to be back in this world. I was surprised at how fast everything came back as I read even though I took a 5 month break. I am enjoying this book even more than the first two. I can't wait to see where this story goes.

ahhh, how is Liandrin getting away with this?

Will be starting in Jan. This group was kind of dead and I and a couple of others revived it and now I'm behind again! Love that for me! :D

you're right, but I wish there are more people. Enjoy TDR! I finished it last week and I think it's ok. The 4th and 5th books are awesome tho. I finished the 4th last week, and the 5th this week, and I think they are very good. The 5th is a little slow until half, but everything will go crazy at the second half. The 4th book has very good pacing, so your immersion won't be broken.

I am reading the 6th one now. So far, so good. The pacing is much better than the 5th, but the 5th book has 1 of the best worldbuilding I've ever read. Have fun.
