Young adult paranormal is an incredibly popular subset of teen fantasy fiction that revolves around magic and features paranormal creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and angels. Tone tends to be dark, and world-building bears a close resemblance to that of adult urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

There is significant genre crossover when it comes to young adult fiction. For example, Twilight could easily be classified as young adult romance because of the strong romantic elements in the story.

I'm not too into paranormal. I've pretty much hated every paranormal book I've read.

witchyreader13, (witchyreader13) When I read YA, it's mostly this genre. Right now I'm reading a great twist on Alice in Wonderland that would fit into this category with all its dark, crazy creatures mixed with a little romance. Splintered (Splintered, #1) by A.G. Howard There really is a great array of paranormal books. Some are better than others. My advice to Erin would be to keep trying. You're bound to find something you like eventually. It's not all sparkly love-sick vampires. ;)

Splintered is such a good book. I loved it, it's one of my favorites. The second book is pretty amazing too.

witchyreader13, (witchyreader13) I already bought the second book. Will probably read it in December. :)

I'm hoping I find something. I did order the Burn for Burn books because I heard they were a good mix of contemporary and paranormal. It's just so frustrating to want to try to find something in the genre.

I am reading Coral & Bone for a blog tour. I hope that it's good.

witchyreader13, (witchyreader13) There definitely is quite a bit available out there with only some of it being worth reading. It's kind of hit and miss a lot of the time if you're picking something that hasn't been recommended to you. I haven't read either of the ones that you mentioned, Erin. I hope you like at least one of them. =)

Yeah. One of the ones that I read was an ARC that I won. I was starting a book blog at the time and figured it would look good to have a review for it on there. I wish I would have just stopped reading it.
