This was a really lovely interview, Lauren. I've never read an Amy Tan book, but I really appreciate and respect what she has done for Asian American representation in literature and films. It's fascinating to read about what she thought of adapting her book, her doubts when she first started drafting, and her feelings on mother-daughter relationships. Great job!
Thanks Reera! It was a fascinating conversation indeed. So you never read any of her books before? Not even TJLC?

Actually, now that I think about it, I have read an Amy Tan book. I read The Valley of Amazement, but never finished it after I had reached the last 100 pages of the book. I did not enjoy it very much.
I don't feel compelled to read TJLC. Though, I am curious to read Amy Tan's memoir.

So last month, I interviewed Amy Tan about both the 30th anniversary of the publication of “The Joy Luck Club” and the recent 25th anniversary of its film adaptation (which she served as the writer and producer for).
I had a very insightful conversation with her about all that. Check it out: https://caamedia.org/blog/2019/04/17/....
