I think there were hints at this attraction in earlier books. I'm fine with it as long it doesn't start to overshadow the book. I like the characters just fine but I'm not sure I'm a fan of their increased involvements in the cases. I want Sarah to be Frank's partner, even if unofficially, not Gino. I felt like Sarah was sidelined in her own series for the first part of this particular book. And I miss the days when it was just Sarah and Frank sitting in her kitchen in the evenings discussing cases. Now it seems like either Gino or Maeve, or both, are always there and the moments when Sarah and Frank are alone are few and far between. Now everything is done in committee. The book after this one is the last one I read before I drifted away from the series and I think a big part of why is this trend. I'm hoping this group read can reignite the spark for me.
Typical of most long-running series, the tent tends to grow to keep the stories fresh. While I enjoy Frank and Sarah being the leads in the investigation, having Gino and Maeve participate in secondary roles add some more flavor. As in most police procedurals, there’s a team component where the clues and leads are discussed. As long as Frank and Sarah have the final say in next steps, they follow that model.
So far, I’m okay but don’t ever want to see the Frank & Sarah show be sidelined.

Good points, Veronica. I also think that Sarah has been sidelined in the series and want her to be front and center in the investigations. She has done more in the last couple of books but not as much as in the earliest installments. I hope Gino doesn't completely usurp her in the books to come.
As to Maeve and Gino, they are cute together. I like their push/pull chemistry and there is a stubborn streak in Maeve that Gino is going to contend with.
