30.5 -Susan A's task: Summer Swimming
Summer is the busiest time of year for my family, mostly due to the frantic pace of my kids’ summer swim team. Summer swimming is a 2 month season that takes place outdoors and features dual meets with shorter races, whereas winter swimming is 9 months long, indoors and features open meets with a greater range of races.

This is a two book task. Please choose two options and read one book for each.

Required: State which options you chose when you post.

Option 1: I can’t believe we have to say this over and over again, but yes, swimming is a sport. Read a book that features the main page genre Sports or Sports and Games. The genre may be embedded.
Examples:
The Natural by Bernard Malamud Him (Him #1) by Sarina Bowen Michael Phelps Beneath the Surface by Michael Phelps

Option 2: Read a book with all of the letters SWIM in the book’s title/subtitle.
Ex: The Swimmer; Before She Knew Him – Before She KneW HIM

Option 3: Summer swimming is all about sprinting. Choose a book that you can read FAST, a book between 100 and 150 pages.

Option 4: The summer swim team colors are red and black. Read a book with ONLY black and/or red letters on the cover. All letters count.
Examples:
Tightrope (Burning Cove, #3) by Amanda Quick The Doctor's Secret (Copper Point Medical #1) by Heidi Cullinan
Will NOT work: Blood & Bitcoin - Criminal Delights Organized Crime by L.A. Witt
Required: Include the cover when you post.

Option 5: Read a book with the word swimmer(s), swimming, swim, swam or swum found in the text. Required: Post the sentence and page number, location or time (audiobooks) at which at the word was found when you post.
Example: Out in the Deep ~ "I popped back up when I realized I wasn’t going to get the call and retaliated by kicking Gabe in the stomach, then swimming partially over him before getting into position on defense." ~ loc. 9/241

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3751 comments Morning.

Could you give me a yay or nay on whether this counts as red and black letters for option 4?

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1) by R.F. Kuang

Thanks.

No, I don't think so. The letters on the bottom half do not look red.

However, according to google books, this book does have the word swim in it so it works for option 5.

TraceyL | 1069 comments Can I get a Sports and Games genre verification for Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing: Life, Death and the Thrill of the Catch please?

It's a brand new release with no genres showing on the main page, but it's clearly about fishing which would fall under Sports or Sports and Games. Here is a link to the amazon page which does have a bestsellers ranking under Sports Fishing. It's even based on the two author's fishing tv show:

https://www.amazon.com/Mortimer-White...

I have a backup read which definitely works for the challenge, I would just love to read this and have it count!

According to the rules of the challenge, it has to have the MPG listed on the page. I'm not allowed to make exceptions.

You can:
1. keep checking to see if the genre shows up
2. this book does work for option 2
3. seems likely that the word swim might come up in which case option 5 would work.

Thank you so much for answering my newbie question!

Julia (julia103) | 2771 comments Would this work for Option 4 Change by Ann Maxwell ?

(The title letters have red and black in the same letter. I wasn't sure from the task wording whether each letter had to be only red/only black, or whether the combination would be acceptable.)

No, sorry. The title appears to be blue, not black.

Correct. A combination of letters in the title and letters in the subtitle will work.
