I liked this book to start off a new generation of Shadowhunters. I found the Blackthorn family and Emma just delightful and their whole dynamic sweet and endearing. The plot itself was okay in my opinion, but I was really there for the characters, which is how I feel about most of these Shadowhunter series.

I liked it too. What I really liked most is that in the other two Clare series I've read, her wise-cracking kick-ass character has always been a dude. It was really nice to see her turn the tables and have a smartass talented girl for a change. I was kind of over Shadowhunter books when I read this, but if I continue, it's going to be because she's twisting her own tropes and making them new again.

I will say that the first 2 books in the series are pretty solid, but the third book went on a bit longer than necessary

They do seem to be getting longer and longer. I don't think I would have made it all the way through Lady Midnight if I hadn't been listening to it on audio.
