Terry, Marie Helene, Vickie and I will be starting this buddy read on June 3rd. Come join us if you would like to read the 3rd book in the Hannibal series.

I think I might be up for this! It's one in the series I never read.

Yup - just checked and it is available on audio on Overdrive. I checked it out and will plan to join in!

Just got to Ch 10 tonight. Wow!! This really started with a fast pace.

I only made it to ch8, but you are not kidding about a fast-paced takeoff!

I'm way behind, sigh... this thing called life is kicking my butt. ;-) Hope I can find more time soon.

Thanks guys! Yes, reading is my relaxation and keeps me sane, but this past week and these next couple weeks was/will be rough. At work, we are moving our whole library to a temporary location while the building gets renovated - AHHH! Then my baby graduates this week from high school, AND my family is looking to move in the next couple months, so we are working hard in the evenings with that. OH MY GOSH, I need to read to keep my sanity, this is nuts! By the end of this, I'll be a crazy person- ha, fitting that I'm reading about our good buddy Lecter!! :oP

Woah!!! The next few months are going to be stressful for you Vickie. I hope you still get in some relaxing time, like reading. Hang in there!!

Everyone, take your time with this one! It looks like we're all reading other books right now or don't have the time. I'll try to do 1-2 chapters a day in, if I can.

I'm also reading The Dark Game with the HA group right now and another book Rogue Island with my real life book club this month.
We have plenty of time to spend with Lecter. ;) hahaha!

By the way, I wish I could have done a BR for Gilded Needles but I just didn't have the time. How are you guys liking it so far?

Sometimes I take on way too many books and I just knew I couldn't do this one as well. Oh well, we'll have to look forward to their reviews/ratings.

Wow, good luck with your next few months, Vickie! That is a handful to handle. Hope you can still relax. I just had my oldest son graduate high school two weeks ago, and I can’t imagine throwing in the stress of that other stuff also.

Marie Helene is right! I’m excited to be reading Gilded Needles. Very Victorian feel, dark settings and seedy characters. McDowell is a great author, so really looking forward to this one.

Sounds like we all have great reads going on!

Hahaha!! Gilded Needles sounds good! I'll have to try and get to it soon. I love books with a Victorian feel.

Thanks Terry, and congrats to your son graduating! Yes, not dealing well with the whole empty nest thing coming in the fall, but I guess the main positive I can hold on to is that I'll have a lot more down time for reading! :oD

Just got to the beginning of Part 2 - Florence. It's Ch 17.
I've got to say that I can't believe Harris is making me (view spoiler)[like Hannibal more then Mason. WTF?!
Mason just creeps me out on a whole other level. I know Hannibal creeps me out as well but it's different.
The part in where Barney says, "He told me once that, whenever it was 'feasible', he preferred to eat the rude."

Okay - sorry I have been missing this thread for a few days - trying to catch up!

I finally started yesterday and at the moment I am not sure exactly which chapter I am in because I am doing audio.

However, as you are all probably aware (view spoiler)[a few characters encountered early on have problems talking. Verger and the guy she encounters in the asylum. This does not translate well to audio! (hide spoiler)]

Also, I am not really liking the narrator on my audio. He is British and when he is trying to do voices and other accents, his British accent is breaking through. It is kind of distracting when Clarice is talking and suddenly she is British!

Also (view spoiler)[maybe I missed this, but why the heck do they let children anywhere near Verger!? He talks about getting accused of molestation while he has this playroom where he can watch kids play. (hide spoiler)]

That's a bummer that the audio isn't turning out okay! I hope you can get through it with a positive experience.

I think the reason why Mason Verger (view spoiler)[can get near children is he's rich and they are orphans or unwanted kids. He's preying on the broken child care system we have in America. It's hard to read too. (hide spoiler)]

I’m going to be hit or miss on the reading for the next week. We loaded up the family truckster this morning and are driving to Florida. Two days of driving each way and a week at the beach.

Thanks, Vickie and Ginger! This is a repeat of a family vacation from two years ago, and I was disappointedly surprised how little reading I got done last time. Too many fun things to do. I do hope to get some reading done this time.

Finished chapter 18, and yes Ginger, I feel the same... It's looking likely that I will need to return my library book (it's due) and just buy this. LMAO!
Maybe we'll all be done with it by the middle of July! :D
