I'm on chapter 18 right now and even though it is true there are some similarities with Twilight I have to say I'm enjoying this a whole lot more (and I read Twilight when it first came out). Katy and Daemon are quite sassy and hilarious and I love their dynamic 'whatever you wanna call it' relationship
I'm only on chapter 14 right now, but I have to say, I'm really appreciating the pacing of the book. It hasn't thrown the entire plot line at us in the first chapter like a lot of YA books I've read. It is basically Twilight though. But I think Daemon is more of a douchebag than Edward was.
Does anyone else find it annoying how often Katy needs to be saved by Daemon? I realize it kind of makes sense given the nature of the plot, but I find her helplessness to be frustrating.
No surprises so far, I was already expecting the "if you get close to us you are in danger that's why I am trying to push you away" but that does not excuse the jerk attitude...one minute he's caressing her the next he is being a jerk...pick one and stick with it and the dialogues seem a bit forced.I was curious about this book because of all the hype, but I did not have high expectations so no disappointment either xD
Daemon is an ass. Not in a "loveable rogue" way. Just an asshole of a character. And yeah, despite Katy's sass and snark it's a little poor how much she's being damseled.I still like Dee, and now we have the big reveal and some backstory it's all getting a bit more interesting. I'm not loving it though. The "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" references to Twilight, almost as a way of trying to differentiate from Twilight, only highlights the similarities in my opinion. Like when Katy asks if they're vampires and they sparkle.
This book is reminding me of Twilight as everyone says, but also K-PAX. In K-PAX he can travel by light as well. I guess I'm a lil bit bummed about them being "light" aliens. It also makes me want to think of the movie Cocoon. lol! Anyway, Katy does seem to be kind of a klutz a lot and getting into bad situations that involve her life. Maybe Daemon will calm down a lil bit more now that Katy knows their secret, because his bipolar personality is starting to get on my nerves.
I'm enjoying the book so far, but I don't have high expectations as to whether it's going to become better or the story will grow on me. The similarities to Twilight are difficult to ignore, and I find myself rolling my eyes when the author tries to differentiate them.Daemon is getting on my nerves with his whole ‘I'm falling for you but I'm dangerous and I don't want to get you in troube’ attitude. Just make up your mind, dude! Dee, on the other hand, is weird and funny and I really like her. It's also nice that we're getting to know more about where they came from and what's the deal with the bad guys. Curious to see what happens next.
This is way too similar to Twilight for me, even down to Katy asking Daemon if he "sparkles." I will say that it is getting more interesting now that Katy found out about the Luxen, however half way into the book is way too late for that. I'm pushing my self to finish because I have already come so far so hopefully it does get better.
I like the book, but it's far too similar to Twilight. It's a bit annoying. I feel like she just took the plot from Twilight and changed the vampires to aliens. What makes it worse is that she mocks the Twilight books by saying stuff like "Are you a vampire?" or "Do you . . . sparkle?" Making fun of something doesn't really work when you're basically copying the plot. I bought the bind up edition so I will be reading the rest of this book and the second one and I'm hoping that something interesting/original will happen. I don't understand the hype about this book at all. Daemon is a complete asshole, and not even an endearing one. I'll start to like him and then he'll blow it by being a jerk again. So far this book is really disappointing.

If Katy gets almost killed and magically heals by the end of the book just like Bella I give up on the series.
I agree with everyone else that this book is way too similar to Twilight. I will say that the book got a bit better since Katy found out about the aliens, but I still wouldn't give this book more than 3 stars.
I'm really liking this! I actually haven't read Twilight and really don't have any intentions to do so, so I can't completely relate to those above^^^The whole "I'm dangerous and I can't like you. Stay away after the trace wears out" thing is getting a bit old. So many other books nowadays have stuff like this, but this is bearable. Honestly, I try not to compare things (other than the tone/feel/mood) in books all too much, so it doesn't bug me a ton.
Tons better than expected so far!
I'm really loving the book so far. I appreciate that the author didn't introduce all interesting and captivating facts about the characters, but she reveals in every chapter a bit about what had happened to them in the past. I highly like Dee who is hilarious and her disposition is much better than her brother's. He's the type of guys who keep the girls away from him because of his behaviour and then "Whow, I'm not guilty about what is happening"

I think the thing that bothered me most about these chapters is how Kat originally acted to the alien thing. She did the "But that's not what aliens look like." But I don like their back story which makes a lot of things make more sense. But I also believe we should have found out about the alien thing a while ago. I mean we are over 100 pages and 16 chapters in.
Okay I'm still so over the daemon and Katy back and forthAt this point I'm so over daemons stupid assholery I can't fathom how this will end up turning into a love story
I loved the 'The Faculty' movie reference. hmm.. I just love Dee so much. but it seems like some bad foreshadowing by Daemon repeatedly mentioning how he needs to protect her. I hope I'm wrong.
I totally see why this book reminds people of Twilight (and other stories), but I think the vampires and sparkling stuff is just supposed to show that Katy reads a lot. Not to make it similar to Twilight. That's why daemon told her that she reads too much (the references to twilight we're on purpose).
