Ana (4nn4) Share your TBR for this challenge! We are all curious about what others are reading.

message 2: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa "Aly" Diane (alydiane0) | 20 comments I think I narrowed down some options but first, do you think it's cheating to use one book for more than one challenge?

message 3: by Ana (new)

Ana (4nn4) I'd say the challenge is very flexible and many things are up to interpretation. So if you want a book to count for multiple prompts, just count it.

message 4: by Samadrita (new)

Samadrita | 8 comments I am kind of confused. I am Indian so if I am reading an American book (which most of them are) does it count as something from a different culture? Or should I search for something more specific?

message 5: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa "Aly" Diane (alydiane0) | 20 comments If it's a different culture from yours then yeah it should count.

Jenn | 13 comments I am doing the Memorial Day-Labor Day plan.

1. Good as Gold: The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan FINISHED 6/19
2. The Book is Better: Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple Finished 6/8
3. Short & Sweet: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie Finished 5/31
4. On the Bandwagon: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens Finished 5/30
5. Actually Want to Read:Sacred Sound: Discovering the Myth and Meaning of Mantra and Kirtan by Alanna Kaivalya Finished 6/26
6. Not From Around Here: Be Here Now by Ram Dass Although written by an American, and told through his eyes, this wild ride brings the reader into teachings of Indian and Eastern spirituality, and also carries us through parts of the psychedelic 60s that I was not too aware of. Much of this book has to do with Ram Dass’ experiences in India with his guru.
FINISHED 7/6
7. In the Friend Zone: Walking the Walk: Putting the Teachings into Practice When It Matters Most by Pema Chödrön FINISHED 6/25
8. It takes two: The Glass Ocean by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig, and Karen White FINISHED 6/20
9. Wheel of Format: Evening Tide: Meditations by Elizabeth Tarbox Not quote poetry, and not quite prose. My pastor often reads from this book, an it is lovely. It isn’t in a format that I often read, as I don’t often read straight poetry or meditations. FINISHED 7/6
10. New Voices: Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight FINISHED 7/3
11. Past Love: Emma by Jane Austen Finished 6/6
12: Armchair Traveler: The Love Season by Elin Hilderbrand FINISHED 6/12

13. Stay Awhile: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (FINISHED 8/28)

14. Stranger Than Fiction: Embracing the Unknown: Life Lessons from the Tibetan Book of the Dead by Pema Chödrön FINISHED 7/1
15. Tongue-Tied: The Bat by Jo Nesbø FINISHED 7/10
16. No Place Like Home: The Sentence is Death by Anthony Horowitz FINISHED 6/10
17: Continental Drift: Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan—this hits Australia, North America, Europe, and Asia. (Finished 5/29) I have Africa in The Love Season, and Antarctica and South America in Where’d You Go Bernadette so, FINISHED as of 6/12
18: Genre Explorer: The Road Less Traveled: A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth byM. Scott Peck
While I have been known to read the occasional self-help or religion type-book, I usually lean toward Buddhist/New Agey stuff. I bought this years ago because I knew it had been a favorite of my mother’s. Not usually my thing. I am using this category to make myself finally read this. FINISHED 7/8
19: Reading Roulette: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson FINISHED 6/4
20: Primary Reading: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury FINISHED 6/21
21: Back to School: Walden & Civil Disobedience By Henry David Thoreau Finished 6/28

message 17: by Jehona (last edited Sep 16, 2019 11:53AM) (new)

Jehona I already started it. I might mix the beginner and expert level because most of my "past love" books are impossible to find where I currently live. "Not from around here" is also pointless because pretty much every book in the challenge is from a culture different from mine.
Edit (10/06): Adding the "Expert" level too since it seems like there is time for it. Also, found a "past love".
Edit (16/09): It seems like there wasn't time for it after all. I started a new job in July and it seems to take much more time than I thought it would.

Beginner

Laura My original plan was to use books for more than one prompt, then I decided to find all different books :D I don't actually expect to read all of them by the end of summer but at least I've got a list now. Most of these books were already on my to-read list, but for some categories I had to think outside of the box! There are a few where I still have to decide which one I'm going to read but I've got time :)

Beginner:
1. Good As Gold: Circe / Red Rising / Eleanor & Park
2. The Book Is Better: The Sun Is Also A Star / The Witcher / I'll be gone in the dark (discovered this one yesterday and it seems really good but I'm not sure if I can handle it as I'm already scared all the time)
3. Short and Sweet: We have always lived in the castle
4. On the bandwagon: Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine
5. Actually want to read: If fried chicken could fly 📗
6. Not From Around Here: The Guernsey literary & potato peel society
7. In the Friend Zone: Never let me go
8. It Takes Two: The wife between us
9. Wheel of Format: The princess saves herself in this one
10. New Voices: The lies of Locke Lamora
11. Past Love: The Mennyms
12. Armchair Traveler: An American Marriage (Atlanta, Georgia) - this was very difficult for me as I want to travel everywhere :D but Atlanta holds a special place in my heart as Gone with the Wind is one of my favourite books (despite all the racism etc yes I know)

Expert:
13. Stay Awhile: World without End
14. Stranger than Fiction: Maid
15. Read a translated book: Beartown
16. No Place Like Home: The travelling cat chronicles
17. Continental Drift:
° Antarctica: Where’d You Go, Bernadette
° North America: The signature of all things (this takes place on several continents as I understand it) 📖
° South America: One hundred years of Solitude
° Europe: Mr. Darcy on becoming a gentleman
° Asia: Japanese children's favorite stories 📖
° Africa: Homegoing
° Australia: The Dry
18. Genre Explorer: Mrs. Dalloway
19. Reading Roulette: The Nightingale
20. Primary Reading: One more river
21. Back to School: not sure yet! There's a lot I don't know much about :D I'm thinking of the following: The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks / Helter Skelter / $2.00 a day: living on almost nothing in America / All quiet on the Western front / King Leopold's ghost / Friday Night Lights

15. Tongue-tied: The Three-Body Problem
16. No place like home: Spinning Silver
17. Continental drift: seems South America and Antarctica are the only continents not represented on my list so need to find a book from/based on there
18. Genre explorer: same problem as 14.
19. Reading roulette: Underground Airlines
20. Primary reading: 2028
21. Back to school: Accessory to War: The Unspoken Alliance Between Astrophysics and the Military

I'm reading the books in the order listed above. I find ordered lists make it easier for me to read because then I don't have to force myself to feel like reading it. Also, since the first book is Kingdom of Ash, that means I have from today until Sunday to read the rest of the series. It'll be a re-read so that shouldn't be much of a problem for me.
