If you have finished reading The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams, Book 1 in the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series, please let us know what you thought.

Spoilers allowed!

Katy (kathy_h) | 210 comments I've finished the first book of the series. Not sure that it held up as well for me this second time reading, but I still enjoyed the story.

I had forgotten that pretty much none of the story lines are resolved in this book.

Kim | 3 comments I also have now finished. I have not read this book before and tend to be pretty picky about my books. It was just okay for me.

I found it distracting how it was always making slight changes to familiar things. Binabik is small and skillful and supposed to be a wise figure so he speaks like Yoda. The months and days of the week are close to ours, but not quite (e.g. Tiasday rather than Tuesday). The Lord Usires was hung from the Execution tree in terrible agony and suffering…

I also didn’t like the beginning how Prestor John was whiny and miserable in his old age before he died and passed on a peaceful and strong kingdom. Or how quickly Elias became evil.

Other than speaking like Yoda, I did like the character of Binabik. I also like the strong female role of Miriamele. And I’m curious to see if/how the dragon has changed Simon. I think the idea of some species being bird like is interesting and hope that might get fleshed out in new ways as the story progresses.
