Feel free to recommend as many humorous books as you like below!
Please only recommend Middle Grade books. (Because this is a middle grade group and I know people will benefit more if the books are only middle grade.)

Please clearly label your recommendation(s) from other comments you might make like “I love that book” or “I’m reading that book right now”, etc.

Please use book links like: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling to help people navigate around GR to find the book(s) easily.

Please include some extra details on the book (if it’s part of series, if it’s part of other genres, etc.)

Challenge: Describe why you like the book in 5-8 words!

A_ bookbound _soul (a_bookbound_soul) | 48 comments Diary of a Wimpy Kid
- you can read it in one go.
- It has all those cartoons to compliment the novel.

I might be the only person who actively avoided this. And I was a kid when it was published. I didn’t avoid it because it was bad but more because I have a thing about not reading books that everyone else reads

A_ bookbound _soul (a_bookbound_soul) | 48 comments I don't know why, but I avoided it first too. But later I kinda liked it.
I have a totally opposite thing. I like to read books mostly read by others to know why they love them so much.

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I have never read this. The closest I came was when I watched the movie of the first one at my cousins' house, but a movie is not at ALL the same. I think it may be because I don't like reading diary/journal type stories.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 466 comments I recommend The Phantom Tollbooth:
– so creative and different
– a quick read
– full of puns, plays on words, and jokes
– a classic from the 1960s enjoyed by all ages

My dad read it to me when I was little, so … <3

Ok that book looks so good. I can tell by the synopsis that these are the kind of puns I appreciate😂 I’m adding it to my TBR!

zaiyah (skellyzelly) My mum tried to get me to read that years ago! Sometime when I was complaining about there being nothing to read. I think I'll pick it up sometime soon.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 466 comments Do it! Such a classic.

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments I recommend Trouble Is a Friend of Mine. It tracks as a little more YA than MG, but it still works for MG. I've never laughed so much out loud when reading a book. The situations are crazy funny and Digby is just a fun overall character.

message 13: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (ftbooklover) | 615 comments I recommend The Fourth Stall. The voice of the main character comes through in this one - a seventh grader who has basically started a protection operation at recess out of the fourth stall of a seldom used bathroom. It is especially funny if you've ever been a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 466 comments I can't believe I forgot to mention Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians. It's one of the most hilarious books I've ever read.

It's part of a five-book series but a sixth book is coming. It's great for getting kids to read.

message 15: by Spens (new)

Spens (sphynxreads) | 152 comments I recommend Hoot by Carl Hiaasen! It's a story of a kid named Roy who finds a juvenile delinquent who calls himself Mullet Fingers who is trying to protect the environment in any way he can. Funny characters but also very heartwarming.

Was that made into a movie?

Yes! I liked it as a kid but when I rewatched it I didn't like it as much.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 466 comments Someone gave it to my kid a long time ago, but I never watched it myself.

It’s funny I just saw this book in one of Spencer’s booktube videos and I remember thinking what is this series I’ve never heard of before and is it good? Glad you brought it up now Audrey so I can remember to check it out!

That's another one of those books that was on my shelf at school for years but never read.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 466 comments It's so good; by Brandon Sanderson.

Help, Audrey - I can't find this book. Could you provide a link?

I recommend The Worst Class Trip Ever (book #1) and The Worst Night Ever (book #2)!!!! I think the first one is funnier but they are both HILARIOUS! The first one is about a class trip going to Washington DC and how they think 2 weird guys on a plane are terrorists and they keep seeing them on their trip! Just read the summary because I'm not very good at explaining stuff!

I loved The Worst Class Trip Ever (The Worst, #1) by Dave Barry , but I never got around to reading The Worst Night Ever (Volume 2) (Class Trip) by Dave Barry .

maria soleil 🌞 (mariathestardust) | 1 comments I recommend “Danny Champion Of The World.” It had me laughing and giggling a lot.
(Sorry I didn’t put a book link 😣, still familiarising myself with this Goodreads Groups feature)
