K Brockett | 1 comments I am going to teach either Antony and Cleopatra or Julius Caesar to my 12th grade child next year. These are not my favorites so I don't have any reason to prefer one over the other. Why might we enjoy one more than the other?

Tom Lane | 84 comments Hi, K, I would go with "Julius Caesar" because: 1) it brings up issues of power that are urgently and poignantly at the fore today; and 2) it seems to have more of Mr. S's memorable one-liners to enjoy in their context - "It's Greek to me," " Beware the Ides of March," "You too, Brutus?" [done in Latin, of course], "the unkindest cut of all," &etc. And it can be more fun to perform in a class, involving more students in some of the key scenes.

I think I agree with the two commenters here who give great reasons. I think A & C is better for older students, or later in life, like the two main characters. I think it talks to older lovers.
