How is everyone liking the book? Discuss Chapters 7-9 here!

Lacey William Hamleigh is seriously VILE! I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book with a worse character than him.

Meesh Preston | 3 comments Hey!!!!!! I can’t believe it I’m keeping up, only about 20 pages behind the “goal list”. I’m not a big reader and this is waaay out of my league but I’m doing it!!!! William is terrible. Some of the scenes make me very uncomfortable. I’m keeping it all together somehow. Still interested at this point.....this will not be a DNF !!! But I will say I loved Memoirs of a geisha, The Gurnsey literary and potato peel pie society and 26 Marathon’s by Meb so much more.😂. Read on friends❤️

Lacey I’m really glad I didn’t live in the 1100’s. All I think about is how brutal and unhygienic it was.

Mike | 12 comments Jesus. I think each chapter gives us another reminder of how terrible William is. When he isn't raping or hitting women, he is playing "fun" games like Stone The Cat or Throw The Baby. But while he is the center villain of the book, everyone around him is just as shitty. Even when Maud defeats King Stephen (who else reads this as Stephen King every damn time? ha!), the men in her army are just as despicable as they loot the town. I'm not a historian by any means, but lessons learned here...all royalty and positions of power were corrupt and ruthless during these medieval times in England. At least in this book, there doesn't seem to be any royal family to root for...thankfully we have Philip and Aliena.

I know it is a big book and we have a ways to go, but where the hell is Ellen? Why has she been quiet for the last five years? Yo girl, what's up?

Kristen | 1 comments I'm behind in my reading, but just finished chapter 9 last night. The battle scene had me on the edge of my seat.

I'm really interested to see how the changes with the quarry and market will affect the progress on the Cathedral.

I agree with Lacey - I'm so happy to not have lived back then. Yikes!

Jennifer (bimpers) | 6 comments I’m way behind but I’m not going to quit reading this book it’s so good. It’s makes me so nervous the way things change so much with the quarry and market. I want Phillip to get his Cathedral. I wonder if this book is accurate in the way things were in the 1100’s?
