Sorry I'm late setting up, I'm marking SATs and its basically logged into a computer 12+ hours a day. Other screen time just isn't happening!
Can I cheat by nominating an omnibus edition of a two-volume story? The Dreamblood Duology by N.K. Jemisin.
Interesting challenge to find a standalone. How about something new. The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Hmm, you fancy a standalone? What do you think about Imajica? Worth the time? Aside from Weaveworld (which is also an interesting take on the grim dark fantasy) it's possibly the only book by Barker that's tagged as Fantasy more often than horror. Sure, it gets SF tagged as well, but nobody's perfect ;) Were it not for the standalone suggestion and one book limit I'd have suggested something more of a classic exotic ;)

Well, I was thinking of proposing to read India's great classic of Mahabharata, but it has so many versions/translations that it's hard to decide which one would be best suited for us... A colleague of mine from India suggested The Mahabharata : A Modern Rendering which is a combined 2-volume version of The Mahabharata: A Modern Rendering, Vol. 1 and The Mahabharata: A Modern Rendering, Vol. 2 as an alternative to Bibek Debroy's arguably better but 10-volume edition... Perhaps someone who's more in the know can point us to even better single volume version if such exists... But for this moment, I'll stay with my first proposal of Imajica, though I would seriously consider that Indian classic sooner or later...
Hi everyone,Sorry for the NOOB question but is it possible to link a book in the comments in the Goodreads app (IOS)?
Darren, no it isn’t. You’d have to go onto the internet and sign in to goodreads through the website on your phone, not the app.
My main reason for never getting one in!

I like the challenge of finding a standalone. This one has been on my shelf for a while, so I'll throw it in the mix and nominate The Bards of Bone Plain
The Emperor's Soul is one of my favorite stand alone fantasy books. It is connected to other Sanderson books, but doesn't require reading them.

Course you can! If it lists as a book it's totally good.

It's that time of the month again! Place your book suggestions here, one nomination and one second per person. Do read through the rules first, please. Feel free to nominate books that have failed selection previously.
1. All nominations must be shelved on GR as fantasy primarily.
2. All nominations must be linked to their book page, or they'll be ignored.
3. All nominations must be seconded.
4. Check our group bookshelf as we won't be including books we've read since January 2015. Check here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
5. No self-nominations.
You have a week to nominate, then I'll set up the poll.
Have at it, Helen
