Hi, my name is Sean and I am an addict... Oh wait, wrong group.I read a lot when I can focus on it and have read many more books than I have listed. I just can't remember them all from the last 20 years :)
I enjoy Fantasy, Fiction, some Graphic Novels, and a good number of Educational type books. In the end I can enjoy pretty much anything I think; except 50 Shades of Grey, that shouldn't even count as a book...
Hiiiii, Sean!
I know exactly what you mean, I wish I had discovered GR sooner so I could rate the books as I read them! Now I will have to reread them all :( Which is going to be quite a hard task, considering my to-read list.
I have not read 50 Shades of Grey... There was quite a lot of fuss about it, huh?
Thank you for joining Sean, feel free to add your favourite books to the group Bookshelf! (top right)

I love to read almost anything. Dystopia is probably my favorite, but I will read almost anything. (except gushy kissing books!).Like you, I've read more that I have listed here on GR, but who can remember every book they ever read?!
I actually read the 50 Shades trilogy with a group of sweet, little old ladies that volunteer where I work. I'm sure my enjoyment came more from their titillation, but they were fun reads. :)
Hello, my name is Brittany and I just love books in general. Fantasy is my favorite but I don't discount and genre. I spend a lot of time reading to review since joining goodreads. I am always in search of new books I may not have come across on my own and I also pen a blog if anyone is wanting to check it out, I post reviews, recipes, DIY projects and other parenthood, etc posts.Http://kiribear.blogspot.com
Hi everyone! My name is Kierstin,
I'm fairly new to Goodreads! I read a lot of Stephen King, horror/gore and movies based on books. Personally, I share a huge love for the scary, dark novels. No vampires and not much mystery. Please add me as a friend if you share the same genre interest. Thanks!
Books I have read that are my top favorite
•The Funhouse by Dean Koontz "Owen West"- I grew up watching this film in place of cartoons! I very much loved this book- if you like reading about carnivals, freak shows and fun houses.. Read this book.
•The Absence of Nectar- I picked this book up at Salvation Army for .25
I loved the cover but had no clue what it was about, I guess it was meant to be. This book is full of adventure and puts you in the footsteps of a 11 year old girl facing her passive mother and deadbeat father. Amazing book!

I run a movie/book club at the local library. Each month we read a book that has been made into a movie. Watch the movie and then meet to compare and discuss. Sounds like it would be right up your alley if you lived nearby!
Wow, that sounds great! I would probably only be able to read books turned into horror movies. All other genres usually bore me. I would love to check out a group like that! Thanks for sharing. I'm located in Glastonbury, CT
Yay, thank you so much for joining!
I am happy to see we have similar literary tastes :)
Makes yourselves at home!
And Kandice, that sounds lovely, what a great idea!
I can imagine myself keeping score of how many things were different from the book ahah.
I agree, Kierstin. If the movies don't have the horror factor they just do not appeal to me anymore these days. But I would like to emphasize that while I love horror, I am not a fan of gore. Bloody stuff not my thing. Like Saw and stuff..

Hi everyone. I'm Dan. Special thanks to Ana for the invitation.I read heavily fantasy and horror. Picking a favorite book or books isn't easy, but a few that I have read in recent years which come to mind are Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear, Dean Koontz's Intensity, Stephen King's IT, and Robert Jordan's Eye of the World.
I am a self-published writer, mainly of horror. Though I have developed my own voice, Rothfuss and Koontz probably influence my prose the most.
Thank you for joining, Dan!
It's a pleasure to be able to chat with each and everyone one of you in a more secluded environment, so to speak, so I really appreciate you joining Book Lair :)
Hmm I need to make a note to read those books, It is the only one I have read and that was quite a few years ago.
If memory serves me right, I have one more book to read before yours, looking forward to digging into Storberry :)

Hiya!I'm Noemí and I'm from Barcelona! :)
I love reading mainly fantasy and adventures but I wish I could have more time to read more...
My classic favorite is and it will be Tolkien but I'm also in love with Neil Gaiman stories and I enjoy a lot reading about funny Discworld from Terry Prattchet.
I have the impression I missed some big names about fantasy and Sci-Fi (like Tim Powers) so GR's reviews are perfect to catch up on those books and discover new ones! Like Joe Abercrombie! I loved his First Law trilogy!
Besides my books, I love Japanese culture, martial arts and manga comics! This year I started a little project to do a webcomic but right now I'm on a little break :) You can check it out at: wwww.nomicomic.com
Thanks Ana for starting this group! I think we have many favorite books and genres in common! :)
Well hello there, we're practically neighbours! xD
Hmm I should really try a book by Tolkien, huh? Discworld is on my to-read list as well, although I didn't really enjoy the Terry Pratchet books I've read in the past. His humour strikes me as weird, somewhat out of context, I guess. It takes away from the creepiness I enjoy so much in horror books :)
I completely agree with you, GR reviews have been very helpful to me as well. Just friends adding books to their to-read lists is useful in my opinion, I end up adding books to mine that I would not even know otherwise.
Thank you for joining, it's a pleasure to have you! And your webcomics are very funny! I always wished I could draw but am terrible at it.
When I created Book Lair I didn't want to choose a specific genre because that might be a bit limiting in case members wanted to discuss other preferences, but I am beginning to see a pattern here eheh.

I don't think I've introduced myself yet. Anyway, I'm Gavin, I'm from San José (Costa Rica not California hehe). I read pretty much anything. My favorite genre is horror (SK is my faovrite author), but I don't focus too much on any given genre; I want to experience as many different things as I can.
Hello Gavin, thank you for introducing yourself!
I wish I could diverse my reading genres like you, but I tend to revolve around the same ones. I can't get into non fiction at all, for instance. Feels like a chore...

Ahah yes, it could definitely be the title for some cheesy 90s show xD
I completely relate to your statement about GR reigniting your interest in reading. The same thing happened to me. I have spent way too much time on this site!
Thank you so much for joining Book Lair, please feel free to make suggestions (that goes to all members!)

Hi!First of all, thanks Ana for the invitation, this seems to be a great group!
For the introduction, I'm French, but I live in China, and I've lived almost half of my life here.
Regarding reading, my tastes are quite eclectic and I read a bit of everything. But I have a weakness for classics (especially Russian and Asian), dystopia, sci-fi and fantasy. But more than everything, I like to discover new things, new worlds, new subjects, new everything.
Unfortunately, since I started working, I don't have as much time as I would like for reading.
Welcome, Mela! Is it ok to call you that? Quite a big name you have there! xD Very interesting, french in China, can you speak mandarin? It seems to be such a difficult language...
I haven't had much time to read lately either, which truly bothers me! I loved drifting off to a new world, especially before sleep, but these days my eyes close as soon as I pick a book up :(

If your fine with it, I'd rather you just call me Mel (that's what most people do) or Melas, because that's how to split correctly my name (or rather pseudonyme). It comes from the Greek melas=black and lithos=stone, so the black stone. And yes, I can speak Mandarin (although reading and writting is a different story). Actually, I was born here, before switching between France and China for a while, and finally settling here a few years ago.
Hey all!My name is Jessica and I am an avid book reader/reviewer/blogger. My blog is newly established and I am somewhat new to GoodReads as well but I have been reading for years and years haha. My tastes vary because to me the most important thing in a book is the story the author has to tell, whether that be horror or tear jerkers. However, I do tend to lean more towards the paranormal but I will never turn down a book unless it seems utterly terrible. I've been pretty busy lately so it's been a bit hectic for me to read, but I'm working on straightening that out :)
Feel free to bug me about anything. I love to chat and love to read!
Sorry for the late post Jessica and welcome, it's great to have ya!
Sucks having less time to read, huh? Same thing is happening to me, I still read a bit before bed but not nearly enough!

Thank you for having me :) And it does suck quite a bit not having as much time as I'd like to read. I make as much time as I can though ;)And Nolan I don't think it's harsh at all. A story can't just simply be written…it must be felt and experienced by the author and that must be conveyed to the reader. I myself can't write anything good unless I'm truly feeling it. I haven't written anything in a while because I refuse to write unless it's something I take to heart or I have a passion for. I want a story to grip me…to make me feel. Whatever that feeling may be.
That makes perfect sense, Jessica. A lot of books have nice prose but not every one can make you feel. If that doesn't happen, I always feel something very important is missing, even if the story is very interesting.
Hi, I'm Zoe! I read more for the writing and characters than for genre—if I open the Look Inside and get sucked in, I'll add the book to my to-read list regardless of what it's about. But I do have a soft spot for horror and noir.
I don't have nearly enough time to read anymore, though. I'm fitting it in ten minutes here, ten minutes there. I got an Audible subscription last week, though, so I could get some "reading" done when I'm busy doing things that don't occupy my mind, like running errands, cooking dinner, or listening to my husband. (I'm kidding about that last one. Kind of.)
I'm also a writer. I grew up in the seventies and eighties with ready access to books from Stephen King, Peter Straub, Robert R. McCammon, Richard Matheson, Robert Bloch, Whitley Streiber, Dean Koontz, John Saul... My mother read me Poe for bedtime stories. Our local TV station used to run the Creature Double Feature on Saturday afternoons (two cheesy old horror movies in a row!) And the first R-rated movie my mother ever took me to was The Boogens. So, while I've written erotica, horror's where I'm truly comfortable, and that's what I've been working on these days. My first horror novel comes out in February. Finally.
And thank you, Ana, for the invite to the group! I like it here already.

Is your book on GoodReads yet? I would love to take a peek at the synopsis :)

It's not yet - it's going up later this month. You can see the synopsis and read an excerpt at my blog, though: http://zriderwriter.com
Kind of, but no kind of vampire anyone would want to be...and definitely no sparkles.
I think I would like to read it and I am sure it will be very successful!
You should probably ask to merge your profile with a GoodReads author profile?

Nolan, thank you. I'll definitely send it to Horror After Dark. I love that the site has a form for submissions. I'll have review copies ready in November when the Amazon pre-order goes up, so I'll stick it on my list to submit it then.
I have my erotica books merged with another Goodreads account, but I don't want the erotica books mixed with the horror, if only to prevent confusion. (I can see it'd be a not-necessarily-pleasant surprise whichever direction you were coming from--thinking you're getting hot action and getting horror instead or vice versa). Once I have Suckers up, I'll ask them to turn me into an author account. (Although in a way I'm going to miss my "I'm nobody special!" reader account. It makes me less self-conscious. And being a reader is awesome. :))

Ah yes, understandable.
I can't figure out that site, Nolan :S I went to the freebies bit but the posts seemed fairly old... How do you get books for reviews there?
Subscribed to yours, Zoe :)

Hello everyone! I just joined this group today and I look forward to reading and discussing books with you all in the future! My name is Abby, I am in the Bay Area, California. I use almost 99% audiobooks through Audible.com. However I also like to "read along" while I am listening on my headphones to the audiobook sometimes, reading either the Kindle version on my iphone app, or the paper/hardcover book itself. I also love to listen to audiobooks while I am driving, going for walks, doing chores around the house and before bedtime. I find I can get through books a lot quicker with the audio version, and there are a lot of great narrators out there!Right now I have been on an over year long Stephen King reading marathon extravaganza, as I like to call it! I've listened to nothing but Stephen King books since around this time last year. Though I did take a quick "break" earlier this year to read a couple of the books in the Game of Thrones series just before the TV show came back on. In addition to Stephen King books, I also try to squeeze in a trade paperback/graphic novel of my favorite DC and Marvel Superheroes like Batman, Daredevil, X-men and Spider-man to name a few.
I am currently reading NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES by Stephen King. Oh one more thing I should add, after reading a book I like to watch the film or television adaptation. I'm sure others do this too right?
Abigail wrote: "Hello everyone! I just joined this group today and I look forward to reading and discussing books with you all in the future! My name is Abby, I am in the Bay Area, California. I also love to watch the movie/show after reading a book, or if I see that a movie was adapted from a book I try to find it.
Nolan wrote: "Unfortunately Ana, I probably won't be as much of assistance since I just became officially acquainted with the site. We do have a "Contact Us" section where you can inquire of any concerns, which ..."
Yes, that's correct, Nolan. I thought only GR did that! If there are more sites out there giving horror/fantasy books, particularly about dystopias/speculative fiction but not confined to that of course, I would love to read and review them.

Hello Abigail, it's great to have you! I had never heard of someone listening to the audio book and reading the physical one at the same time, that must be quite an experience! Do you find it makes you feel more enthralled (just learned that word so sorry if I applied it wrong ahah) in the story?
And yes, I absolutely love watching a movie after I finish a book but that's not always possible. Sometimes when the movie is finally out I will reread the book. I enjoy that a lot!
Feel free to browse through the Discussions topics, particularly the Movie Adaptations one!
And hooray for having a reading marathon of my favourite author :D

Hi there! I'm Wenda and Ana invited me to this group yesterday. I'm Dutch but live in France (I read only in English).I'm a bit hesitant because I find a lot of horror/fantasy etc above and that is not really my genre... I like to read historical and contemporary fiction and I throw in an occasional classic (Jane Austen, Brontë sisters, Dickens).
There's never enough time to read (my TBR pile grows faster than my 'read' one...) but I try to use every free minute I have and I always have an audiobook at hand.
Very happy in any case to have found GR because I feel less of a nerd now;-)
Anyway feel free to be-friend me if you think we have some tastes in common!

Hello Wenda and welcome! You're right, we do have those genres mostly in common but I am sure you will find members who enjoy the ones you mantioned as well! Make yourself at home ^_^
Hi Abigail! I love that Amazon introduced WhisperSync. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I'm looking forward to the first Kindle+Audible book I buy so I can switch between audio and text whenever I feel like it.
Ana, https://www.netgalley.com and Edelweiss (see http://abovethetreeline.com/bloggerre...) let you request review copies of books. (You of course to in turn review the books; otherwise publishers/authors won't have any interest in sending you copies, but with both I believe you post your reviews here, Amazon, etc., and don't have to have a blog for it.)

I posted in the Kindle Store topic yesterday regarding Amazon reviews, I would really appreciate any help as I am unable to post them for some reason.

hi everyone, just started with goodreads today (at Ana's insistance). have always read books and usually stick to a genre for a few years. favorite authors are: Robert Jordan, Brent Weeks, Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Eric Van Lustbader, Wilbur Smith, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, George RR Martin, Ben Bova, Tom Clancy and more.sometimes i get lazy and re-read rather than search for something new that may not be so good. (re-read the Wheel of Time series with each new release after The Shadow Rising and slowly working through it again. mostly read on my iPad now but prefer a paperback, (mostly read in bed and hardcovers can be heavy/awkward)
Woohoo, I am very happy you joined Shannon, looking forward to checking out what you read ;)
I am sure with GR you will have no trouble finding new stuff to read!

Yes, the trouble with GR is finding time to read all the new stuff. Hi Shannon!
