Do you have any suggestions for the group? Polls, activities, books, etc, feel free to post in this folder!

In order to keep track more easily, please open a new topic per new suggestion. Thank you!

I like that!

But what about the books that fall under several categories?
For instance, these days a lot of books fall under fantasy, horror, post-apocalyptic and dystopia (which are my favourite eheh). While the two latter ones may constitute as subgenres, the 2 first are main, so that could be an issue. So how about I create a folder for the reviews and we just post the book title instead of dividing by genre? Also, I can only create folders which contain threads, so I couldn't have a horror folder inside the reviews folder, only a horror thread, which would contain all horror books in it.

I was thinking the same thing about genres. Books can be so hard to categorize.

That's a GOOD thing!

message 5: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I second that!

message 6: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I looked for a way to add a folder as a member, but I think you need to be a mod to do it.

Sounds great, but do you think it's worth a seperate folder or should we have a Movie/Tv Show Adaptations folder? Which do you find easiest to look up/browse?

Alright, editing it now :)

What about posting the book under the top ranking shelf that GR users have posted it as, for instance, The Miniaturist has been shelved as Historical Fiction by 555 users yet also has been shelved as Fiction by 207 users and Mystery by 78 users. So use what the majority of folk have shelved it under as. Might help they way the categories are constructed and folk can clearly see which Genre to post it in.

Hmm I am not sure what the suggestion refers to anymore, we discussed it a while ago. But it was generally accepted that dividing by genre can get confusing to people, since they associate it to different genres. Even if we divide by most popular, people will still search by their personal preferences. Have you had a chance to browse through all the folders? It should be more organized now. We even have a Members Corner where each member can open their own topic and share their reviews and any other info they want to share :)

message 11: by Sarah (new)

Sarah "Pippy" (pippyx) Hey no worries about the categories, I will get to those soon.
Still making my way through them but enjoying what I am seeing at the moment. Thanks Ana.

Hey, I know we have member's corners where we can post reviews, but not sure everyone checks each other's regularly for book ideas and reviews.

I was wondering if a discussion feed 'Just Read - no spoilers' or something would be fun. I don't always write a review when I finish something, but that doesn't mean I don't have a few words to say. This would be a tie-in to the 'What book have you just bought' feed. So we can see when all those books everyone else is buying actually get read! Just a thought.

Melaslithos | 1645 comments There is the What are you reading now? thread. Were you thinking about something like that?

message 15: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Yeah, but for finished books. Do we need this? Maybe not. But sometimes I wish could announce that I made it through this or that book and a couple of thoughts on it after I'm done.

You mean like the Book Discussions forum? That one is there so people can post thoughts on books they have read but not through buddy reads. I used it the way you describe to post about Billy Tabbs. It's useful cause people may not read the book at the same time but if they do the topic is already there, and it's very easy to find the info because there is one topic per book instead of all books being in one topic.

message 17: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments And if you want something more random, where you would say just a few word, I think you can write in the What are you reading now thread. I think it's a good pleace to announce what you read/just finished reading and say a few words on the subject. It kind of goes together.

Maybe, if you prefer, Ana could change the name to What are you reading now/what did you just finished reading??

Or add a "general/random" thread in the book discussion folders for those who just want to throw a few words without a big discussion, if you insist on something separate?

If the Book Discussions forum does not work, you are free to create the topic you suggested, Leigh. I just find it a shame that that forum never gets used, which is why I suggested previously merging it with Buddy Reads, though I do admit it's best not to.

message 19: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments Hmmmm. Maybe the title book discussions implies that you have to have read the same books. I agree that neither should go in the buddy reads, which is for specific books and small groups. It just seemed like an inviting feed. I don't want to push my opinion on anyone, though.

That could work...'Reading Now/Just Finished'

message 21: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I don't care for a ton of rules. I think it's nice to have Buddy Reads for more formal discussions and then the other threads for everything else. We're still a small enough group that it's no problem to check threads. If we had hundreds, then it might be more problematic.

message 22: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Stuart | 348 comments For me, it's just a question of organizing in the most natural and inviting way so people want to jump in and talk about stuff.

I agree, it's just that sometimes too many rules or folders make people hesitate to comment for fear of doing so in the wrong way/place.

I understand what you're saying but I also think it is much more user friendly when a topic clearly states what is discussed there, so I like rules :) That way everyone knows what they are going to find there and where to look when having something in mind.

That said, whatever you guys want to do is fine by me.

message 25: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
So is the renaming of the What are you reading now? topic to Reading Now/Just Finished the general consensus? Do you guys have any other suggestions which you would like to explore first?

message 26: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Also, do you guys want the Book Discussions forum at all? Seems pretty pointless, no one uses it :S

message 27: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'm in for the renaming solution. And for keeping the Book Discussion forum. You never know. It's always nice to have this possibility.

Alright. Renamed. If anyone changes their minds and comes up with something, we can always brainstorm, so feel free to post!

And yep, you never know, I just wonder if anyone will ever use it, especially with this new topic.

message 29: by Kandice (new)

Kandice In another group someone brought up the fact that most e-readers allow you to lend books. I know my Nook does and some Kindles do. How about a thread devoted to lending where we list our device, the country we live in (it makes a difference) and what books we own that electronically lendable?

message 30: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Sounds great, Kandice! Probably in General folder? Go right ahead and create it!

I thought you had created that one already Aaron, I have a vague recollection of us discussing it?

message 31: by Karl (new)

Karl Bradshaw-White | 13 comments I have seen on many writing forums a 'Thank You' button, is it not possible to add one? As when someone posts a kind word, or is helpful it would be nice to say 'Thank you', without spelling it out each time.

message 32: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Really? I never heard of that O_o No idea how it could be done...

message 33: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'm not sure if we're thinking about the same thing, but I think that would be something GR would have to implement, we have not influence on it here.

Maybe you should ask in the GR feedback group.
