*There was as quite unveiled reference to Cain and Abel at the end of this Book Three. But so many stories are. It wasn't strong enough for me to remotely consider this a re-telling. But interesting how many there are to choose from.
3.5. You know I didn't love the third as much as the first two. I am not a fantasy person, per se, although I really fell for the Tethered Mage series. I think I just found the third alternately dragging, confusing, and not really well explained what was happening, its connections, and why. I do think it would make a great mini-series or movie, though. I really didn't get the end at all. I do think there were some socio-political themes, but they just weren't clear to me.
But the plusses! Warring queens, with traumatic backgrounds. Sapphire necklaces that allow certain holders to travel in time, or to inhabit the spirit of others. A lost crown. Preachers that are evil, and preachers that fight for the good. Same with witches and seers. A kick ass young unselfish teen queen. OK - it was worth the read!
The first 2 got 5 stars from me-this one only 4 -part of my review
"I have to admit the ending let me down a bit, but not enough to be put off from this author. I look forward to new works from her. She is a unique voice in the fantasy genre. "
