Amazon Collects Mindy Kaling’s Essays

In summer 2020, Amazon Original Stories will publish a collection of brief essays by Mindy Kaling, actor, producer, and author of the memoirs Why Not Me? and Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? The essays, which were acquired by Amazon Original Stories editorial director Julia Sommerfeld, will be available for free to Prime and Kindle Unlimited customers. Others can download the collection as a Kindle e-book or Audible audiobook. Richard Abate of 3 Arts Entertainment repped the author.

Also, the biggest news story we're tracking from last week: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-am...

Penguin Random House is facing criticism over a copyright claim on an Asian American literary classic it republished in May that recounts the aftermath of the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II.

I remember reading No-No Boy in my Asian American Lit class back in college. I'll have to dig up my copy but I'm pretty sure I have a UW Press version. I remember us being pretty excited about this series from Penguin Classics, kinda sucks that they tried to pull some sneaky legal maneuvering

Lauren | 112 comments Didn’t UW release an anniversary copy or something a few years ago? I ask because the copy I read had a foreword from Ruth Ozeki.

They did, Penguin just released their own edition without clearing the rights because of a technicality that allows them to claim that the original text is in the public domain.

Yup. Mike Chen actually reached out to us, so we'll be checking out his book soon.

Upcoming. Though, I will definitely read Here and Now and Then at some point. The premise reminds of Doctor Who, and I am all for it.

Clara | 10 comments Apologies if this is not the right thread, but Joan He, author of Descendants of the Crane just discussed Albert Whitman's refusal to pay royalties on time and now publishing a PB version without her permission. Maura Milan, the author of the book this month, also said the same thing happened to her with (I assume) the book the book club is reading for this month. https://twitter.com/mauramilan/status...
