ShazM | 487 comments Orphaned poor relation, Jane Steele, is sent away to boarding school by her hated aunt where she is intended to learn to be a governess. This plan is derailed slightly by the trail of dead bodies Jane leaves in her wake. However, after her aunt's death a distant relative inherits the estate which Jane's mother had told her would be hers and Jane applies to be governess to Mr Thornfield's ward in order to get back into the house she hopes to one day own. The household is a strange one and Jane discovers the inhabitants have as many secrets and as unconventional a lifestyle as she does.

I have never felt so much sympathy for a serial killer! This is a great book and would probably make a good story on its own but it is also peppered with quotes from Jane Eyre, our heroine's favourite novel, and, of course, parallels with that story. Definitely five stars from me.

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments I read The Paragon Hotel by the same author this year, and gave it an average 3 stars- everyone had said in response to read this. Happy to see another rave review, perhaps I should give the author another chance.
