I'm still reading Hum If You Don’t Know the Words and hoping to finish this weekend. Between this one and Heart of Darkness, it seems I'm taking a literary tour of Africa.
My book club takes a break during the summer so we finish in June with a pot luck. I'm looking forward to it next weekend. Yum yum! Our book for discussion is Only Child by Rhiannon Navin.

I finished Ali Smith's Spring and thought it was really good, if quite grim. This is the first one of the quartet that made me cry.
Now I'm reading The Old Drift and for once, the hype was right...so far, it's amazing. Reminds me in style of a beloved favorite: Birds Without Wings
Allison, I'm looking forward to your reaction to
Hum If You Don’t Know the Words...I have it on audio but haven't been motivated to start yet.
Sarah, I listened to this podcast on Daniel Tammet and found it and him fascinating:

Back from BookCon in NY - had so much fun. And shopped way to much. Book bought/brought home - not so much - 8
Currently reading for my Bda Bookclub: Lost Children Archive and for fun - Cyrus - found a genre of romance novels that I really quite enjoy.
Currently Listening to Lethal White; Heads Will Roll; and A Gentleman in Moscow

This week I finished Landing Gear, which I enjoyed, although it wasn't at all the book I was expecting it to be. I also read Sugar Run, which I liked a lot. It's Grit Lit or Southern Noir but by a female author featuring female main characters, which I found refreshing for this genre. I was sucked into it right away and read it quickly.
I'm currently reading Coming Through Slaughter, which is this month's pick for my IRL book group. This is Ondaatje's first novel, a fictionalized imagining of jazz legend Buddy Bolden's life. The writing is very poetic and not at all straightforward. It will be interesting to see how people in our group react to this. I read this a very long time ago and basically don't remember it at all, but I have to imagine that I'm getting more out of it now that I live in New Orleans. I have looked up several locations in the book (now long gone) and that has been fun. My favourite has been finding out about an old park that catered to African Americans and had jazz concerts, a skating rink, and hot air balloon rides. There's a Costco there now. Buddy Bolden's grave is in a pauper's cemetery that is a short walk from my house, so I will pay it a visit after I finish the novel.
I'm also reading Beyond Katrina: A Meditation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast by former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey.

I'm looking forward to the thoughts on a number of the books listed above.
This week I started reading the third of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, Life, the Universe and Everything. It's very entertaining. I'm amazed at how easily Douglas Adams makes the zany happenings come together so logically and cohesively. It almost sounds plausible and real.
I also started They Were Counted. I have just started so can't comment on the story yet but I like the writing already.

I've been contemplating Heads Will Roll. Is it any good?

I finished The Diviners, which I really enjoyed and have moved on to The Quiet Twin by Dan Vyleta, who has lived in Canada but now lives in the UK. I am using that one for my Bingo square about a Canadian that lives abroad.
It looks like a rainy weekend here so hopefully I will get lots of time to read and sleep! This work week has been exhausting. Happy Reading!

Game 4 of the NBA finals, GO RAPTORS!
Not much reading got done this week. Finished The Widow (meh) and The Time Traveler's Wife ( really enjoyed) in paper and Just the Funny Parts: My 30 Years on the Hollywood Jungle Gym (just ok) in audiobook.
For The Time Traveler's Wife, I definitely belong to the love camp. It's got an unusual structure, but ultimately it was a love story, a coming-of-age story and at some point it was a story about loss all packed into one.
My IPBC is reading The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women a non-fiction. I listened to the audiobook and quite liked it, but it was a heavy topic, so not sure why it was picked as the summer read.
@Rainey, I am surprised you only brought back 8 books from BookCon :) Was it an overwhelming experience? @Susan, @Allison and I were discussing about going there.

It was a lot - also I am very selective about books and wont take any that are free just because they are free. I literally bought more other stuff at book con - 3 t shirts, socks, magnets, lots of free book bags, and books for my nephew.
Also I am beyond the stage of standing in line for 2 hours for an autograph - unless its the following people - Michelle Obama, Roxane Gay, JK Rowling or Eminem - its not happening. There was a lot of that. The Panels were cool though. Enjoyed those and I only had to wait in line for 15 minutes.

Great reading everyone!!
@Rainey - i am surprised you only brought home 8 books... although you probably had to be careful with the weight of your luggage!
Reading has still been a bit slow but i did manager to finish The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World which was inspiring!
i also finished Foe which i did a combination of reading and listening so that i could finish it on time. i had been excited to read it after listening to the author speak but was left disappointed finding it just ok.
