How it Went Down sounds like a very relevant book that has clear correlations to the modern day problems we face around the world. The different point of views, sound like it gives the book a different author every time a new character takes over the story. I usually don't like to stray far from my typical preferences when it comes to books, however How it Went Down sounds like a fantastic read and I will be putting it on my "Books I want to read" list. Thanks for sharing!

i liked the review was a good look into the book but not spoiling it. it sounds like a really interesting book though might have to check it out. is it a fast read or a little bit longer of a read.

The chapters felt short because they were split by POV. Also the story was so interesting that it was hard to put down.

How it Went Down is a realistic fiction novel about the shooting of a young black man, Tariq Johnson. The way this story is quite interesting as each chapter contains multiple perspectives from Tariq’s friend, family and community. The main conflict in this story is whether or not Tariq was a gang member and if he was innocent or not. It is believed he did not have a weapon, but the different characters do not agree on his innocence. Each character has their own unique voice that adds to the story and helps develop a fully rounded perspective.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend that everyone read it. Not only is the writing unique and amazing but the message is also important. Tariq’s story does not only exist in fiction but is sadly familiar to countless real-life stories. I think that if people are not fully understanding and empathetic to the suffering of minorities in the US this book could teach them a lot. The many distinct voices all create a community that shows what the suffering is like after losing a young life. This book is one you will not want to put down.
