As I have previously stated, I struggle with reading magical realism. However, the book sounds interesting. I love reading books about girl groups and female friendship, and it sounds like Miranda Asebedo's novel fits the bill. Although I am hesitant about the magical realism aspects of the novel, I will definitely give The Deepest Roots a try.
I too, struggle with magical realism. It's either a hit-or-miss for me (like last year's All the Crooked Saints, which was a miss.) But at the same time, I like books that are superpower-y or rely on psychic abilities. While this one doesn't appear to be about psychics, I'm actually looking forward to it a little bit. I guess it all depends on if it's too weird for me or not.

This is a debut novel for author Miranda Asebedo. It's a magical realism focusing on four friends with mystical abilities. The sequel, A Constellation of Roses, is expected to hit the shelves later this year.
