I used to love this series too. After she passed away last year, I read one that I had missed and it was wonderful. As soon as I heard the voice on the audio I felt like I was hearing from a long lot friend. My mom used to like this series too. She couldn't read much for a few years, but she's doing better now. She just devoured some Mary Higgins Clark books I brought her. I should try to find some new authors for her.

I didn't listen to this, When and where I started listening (I haven't read the entire series, it was a different narrator who I thought suited Kinsey so perfectly I didn't want to try a different one--Judy Kaye. She gets better at doing Kinsey as she goes along (I bopped backwards and forwards and out of order for these for various reasons last year for reading challenges, etc). I did read it in print last year for something or other as well. I had read A is for Alibi years ago and didn't bother to read more until last year.
I just listened to B is for Burglar, read by Mary Peiffer and really enjoyed it (3.5 stars for me too). I’ve never read the books before, but so many of my lovely PBT friends seem to enjoy them that I snapped up the audio from the library. And C is for Corpse is available too ... moving straight on :) Lovely to listen to while I’m knitting - happily working on a little sweater for my nearly month-old granddaughter 🥰

It is nearly winter in your neck of the woods, so this is the perfect time for a sweater.

Book four in the series. PI Kinsey Millhone gets a new client whose story seems a bit fishy. He wants her to deliver a certified check to a teen-aged boy. Her suspicions are aroused, especially when he refuses to explain why he can’t (or won’t) deliver it himself. But it’s the end of the month, rent is due, and she accepts his retainer. Then his check bounces and she quickly discovers that he isn’t who he claimed to be. When he turns up dead the police call it accidental drowning, but Kinsey thinks he was murdered. The question is why and by whom?
I really like this series. I had started it years ago and probably got to about book 8 or 9 before I stopped reading. Now I’ve started over from the beginning and am enjoying the retro feel. There are no cell phones or computers; Kinsey has to rely on her intellect, her network of connections and good old-fashioned leg work. She’s smart, determined, self-sufficient and never has to rely on a man to get her out of a tight spot.
Mary Peiffer does a fine job reading the audio version. She sets a good pace and I really like how she interprets Kinsey’s personality.
