Kylie H | 1310 comments Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone else knows anything about a site called Reedsy? It appears to be a bit like Netgalley but for Independent authours/publishers.

https://reedsy.com/about

See email below that I received, I have applied to join but have not had my application 'approved' as yet. Will let you know how I find it all when this happens, but if anyone else is interested just follow the link below.

Hi Kylie,

Thanks for your interest, and apologies for the time is has taken me to follow up!

To tell you a little more: as a Reedsy Discovery reviewer, you’ll get access to free ARCs; a beautiful, easy-to-use dashboard from which you can find new books and publish reviews without any fuss; and a space to build your brand and reach thousands of readers in your favorite genre.

As an avid reader, it definitely sounds like you'd be a good fit.

To join, you can create you profile by heading here: https://reedsy.com/discovery/reviewer...

You are more than welcome to share the invitation with members of your online book club as well! Thanks for passing along the opportunity.

All the best,
Felicia

Veronica ⭐️ | 83 comments I received an invitation as well and I thought the idea was good but I don’t have the time to read more books than I already have.

I feel the same Veronica - I don't have time to read the ones I do have!!

Kylie H | 1310 comments I know what you mean! But my biggest fear is running out of reading material 😬. Not likely to happen, but doesn’t stop me just picking up one more book just in case.

Haha! We can never have too many books - right??

I've signed up, but the expected turnaround on the books is a bit quicker than what I can usually manage. I've accepted one book for review so far, but a lot of them haven't really appealed to me, which in some ways is good, because I'm not short of books.

Keep us updated with how it goes if you don't mind Col. Thanks :)

Thanks Col, I am still awaiting my application as a reviewer to be approved, so have not had any experience with the site as yet. I was intrigued to find out more about it.

Read and reviewed my first book for the site. Had trouble posting the review but their admin team uploaded it for me.

I get emails 2 or 3 times a week with their latest mystery and crime offerings which you can browse. Turnaround times vary and they are pro-active in chasing you up if you aren't prompt. I did say I needed a further week and they were fine about it as the book I took for review hasn't yet published. My book was in PDF format, not too sure if other formats are available. Other genres of book are.

None of the mystery authors or books on offer were known to me, most of the offerings appear to be self-published (an educated guess) I haven't analysed them all. I do read a fair percentage of self-published and small press offerings in addition to a selection of better known authors from bigger publishers. A mix works well for my reading palette and I enjoy giving under the radar authors a chance. I wouldn't expect well known names to appear on here, you'll have more success at Net Galley of Edelweiss - Above the Treeline sites. Here you can only have a maximum of 3 books at anyone time.

I'll still stay subscribed to the site I think, but don't anticipate using it too often. Hope this helps.

FYI - the title I reviewed was Golden Palms by John Brady Golden Palms by John Brady

Thanks Col. I have told them no at this stage, but wouldn't accept PDF anyway. And I'm not sure I like the fact there's a time frame to read and review either. And it is an Indie site, so all self published authors being given a chance by this site :)

Kylie H | 1310 comments Thanks Col, I may just stick with the NetGalley.

Reedsy, if you sign up via the link and post a review you can get an Amazon gift card worth $50 after you post your first review - so can I! I'm going check to see if they offer the equivalent for UK and Australian readers.

https://reedsy.com/discovery/reviewer...

Most of the books on the site are probably self-published and may not hold an incredible amount of appeal, but I have enjoyed the two I read and reviewed.

Thanks Col,
I had received an email about this. I still haven't had a chance to do anything with the Reedsy account, I have a few to read from Netgalley at the moment.

Hi,

Just to advise I checked with them and voucher would be issued irrespective of location, not just limited to the US.

I am under the impression this site is based in the UK. The email I received was from the UK anyway :)

Brenda, thanks. I didn't check - I just assumed US because the default currency for their offer was posted in $. I don't suppose it matters too much.

The book world has gotten smaller in the digital age. I remember when I used to send lists of books (and banknotes) to a book man in Indiana for him to track down and then post to me! Happy days!

just had another mail from them, they've upped their sign up offer to $100 for reviewers and referrers but need to sign up before Friday.

Hi Colman,

Our reviewer referral program has now been live for one month 🎉 To celebrate, we’re doubling the reward this week! This means you and a friend can now earn $100 each.

Here’s how it works: start by sharing your personal invitation link with book reviewers you know. If they click on your link and sign up as a reviewer, you will both receive $100 when they publish their first review.

This offer closes on Friday, November 22nd, so don’t sleep on it for too long!

Have a great day,
----------

Any one want to take them up on it? Pretty certain it's genuine as I have got a much smaller voucher from them previously. You can either leave your email address in the comments and I'll send you the link, or you can email me at col2910 (at) gmail.com and I'll have your address that way. I'll delete it afterwards if you want. cheers Col

Kylie H | 1310 comments Thanks again Col, I got sent this too. I might hold out a bit longer and see if they increase the incentive ☺

I've invited a few people and hope they take up the invite. Apparently it's not an Amazon voucher but a bank credit via Stripe - something I hadn't heard of before. Similar to Paypal I think.

Don't know that the incentive will increase, it drops back to $50 after Friday
