Welcome to WAT IV otherwise known as Wheel O'Brown in honour of Cat. Hopefully there won't be too much craziness.

Whether your a seasoned player or new to the game please read the rules. If you have any questions let us know and LauraLa and I will do our best to answer your questions.

When you check-in please post a link to your shelf.

Our first word is BEIGE with ADVENTURE as top shelf. (1st page of shelves). We get two re-spins during the game.

Take a look at the Genres listed and let us know what you would have difficulty with. (Not every book read for our word needs to have the tag as long as we can get 10 books we get the bonus).

So as to keep things tidy we have a seperate book reporting thread linked above.

Let the madness begin!

M Beal | 1691 comments Hello!! I am so excited for another Wheel-a-thon. Happy to see some familiar faces. I hope I do this correctly. Here is my shelf.

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2353 comments Hi everyone! Back to NBRC after a hiatus and excited for another team challenge. I'm on my phone right now and just plain lazy to get up yet so i will link my shelf later.

I don't think i can contribute much to space opera and new adult but i can try however im sorry i dont read horror and lgbt.

message 14: by Kate (new)

Kate Hello! I am also excited to join in another team challenge. This is just my second, but I think I have got a feel for how to play.

Here's a link to my shelf: 2019-wat

Looking at the genres, I am not very familiar with space opera, shifters, or new adult. I have titles on hand to read for any of the other genres. And, I am more than willing to accept suggestions for the genres I don't spend a lot of time reading.

Space opera is a type of science fiction, think Star Wars.

Shifters is shape sifters

New Adult is for people 18-25.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Hi Everyone!! I love this challenge, so I'm really excited to start :D

I'm good with all genres except horror, if I absolutely have to I could read for it, but I'm hoping there are others on our team that like it ;)

My shelf, my link text

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Has anyone actually read The Silver Pig?

message 18: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I can read Mistborn, it's tagged adventure on the first page, but completely fine if someone else has an adventure they want to take :)

message 19: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3367 comments Hi Everyone, I'm really excited for this to start, this is probably one of the less stressful team challenges that I do. I'm just a little bit addicted to them, currently in 5 team challenges.

If a genre comes up that you really can't find don't worry,I really don't want SPACE OPERA. My mantra to Wheel is Read what you want to read, and have fun, you never know someone might have tagged a book that you're reading with the genre we need, even though it doesn't fit.

I didn't even realise The Silver Pigs was a book! Having read précis I may have to hunt it out. I love mystery novels and on looking at the tags it works for Suspense and possibly Adventure.

@ST I'll add Mistborn to the s/sheet a nice juicy page count too.

I'm going to check what I've got upcoming and slot in as needed.

MPG Adventure 851 people Spell it out: MC Ellie Stattler

Magician's Gambit by David Eddings 305 pages
MPG Adventure 90 people Spell it out: Author last name

Bookworm_gem (gembear) | 313 comments hi everyone,

looking forward to this task, my shelf is https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

I read 1 or 2 books a week but will contribute as much as i can!
Of those genres i'd struggle with Shifters, Space Opera and LGBT.

Ghost in the Stacks Hi everyone GR is giving me some issues right now, so I will try to post my self latter on.
My life is a bit hetic at the moment, but I have been still getting some reading in.
And most you know Horror is one of my wheel- houses, so I can for sure cover that one. LGBT will probably be the hardest for me.

I'll get them added this evening, I can't access my google sheets in work :(

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2353 comments Also, I have Station Eleven and Code Name Verity for adventure.

message 26: by Bookworm_gem (new)

Bookworm_gem (gembear) | 313 comments Considering we can only use 10 books to get the extra genre points and 7 are already listed above; i'm going to read a book that doesn't have a main page as adventure, hope ok! :)

message 27: by Liz (new)

Liz (howlinghickory) | 3 comments This is my first ever challenge so please be gentle with me! I read most all genres & am always willing to try something new. Can someone give me some pointers on how the challenge works? I’ve read the rules & I understand this week is beige & adventure. Do I just pick an adventure to read? Do I shoot for a letter in ‘beige’? Thanks!! I’m excited to get started!

message 29: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2383 comments Hi All - I'm also very excited for a new WaT challenge! I'm with Louise and agree it is one of the most stress free team challenges - almost any book you read could work for the challenge between Title/author/series and character names. I'll have to be careful of the page count, though, as I seem to have a larger than normal number of 100-ish page novellas on my current TBR.

As for the genres... I think we will hit those no problem. It never ceases to amaze me how people tag books. Space Opera will probably be the hardest, but if need be, we can re-spin if we get that one. Or just agree to forego the extra points.

Horror or Memoir might be the other two I struggle with, esp Memoir. There are a surprising number of UF books that have a horror tag (on the first page might be a problem...). Anyway, I don' think the genres are insurmountable!

Louise is our brave captain and I am her not-so-brave co-captain. We live on opposite sides of the pond, so between the two of us, hopefully we can answer questions or keep up updated pretty readily.

Louise | 3367 comments Have added all promised books to the tracking sheet, we have 8 promised adventure books. Go us.

All shelves are linked, Liz can you post a link to your shelf please.

message 32: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3367 comments A quick recap:

💠 We get a new word each week. Week 1 is BEIGE

💠 Once we complete our word once we get 15pt bonus on top of our page points.

💠 We can complete our word as often as possible, there is generally a lot of shuffling happens to maximise our points. We can only have one partial completion.

💠 Minimum page count is 160, higher page counts are worth more points.

💠 Books for this challenge cannot be started until the timer reaches 0.

💠 For a book to be counted this must be posted before End of week 1 timer reaches zero.

💠 Participation in the BOM is worth additional points, link to your discussion post when submitting your completion.

Louise | 3367 comments My upcoming books (already planned)
Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
Cheating Death (The Immortal Descendants, #5) by April White
Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes

message 34: by Kate (last edited Jun 13, 2019 01:31PM) (new)

Kate I can probably read 2 next week. I may be able to squeeze in a third, but no promises.

I am thinking:

The Emperor's Tomb by Steve Berry which would work for B or E obviously and has Adventure on the first page of shelves.

And
If You Really Loved Me by Ann Rule for an I book.

message 35: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2383 comments Here's my tentative plans for the week

Scoundrel (The Blades of the Rose, #2) by Zoe Archer + adventure tag (MPG even)
Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy, #1) by Ilona Andrews + adventure tag

Cage's Misconduct (NHL Scorpions, #3) by Nikki Worrell
Rocco and Mandy A Red Team Wedding Novella (Red Team #6.5) by Elaine Levine
Demon's Mercy (Dark Protectors #9) by Rebecca Zanetti

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2353 comments LaurLa, that Ilona Andrews had me itching for August to come sooner! Enjoy!

Kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2353 comments I just took a peek in the team sheet and noticed by shelf name written there is different. I don't know if it will affect it when it starts pulling books from my shelf. My shelf is named 'nbrc wat 2019' and spreadsheet has Wheel-o-Brown.

Thanks Capts!

Whoo hoo Liz, you are going to become addicted to challenges :D . This is actually a good first challenge because you really have a lot of flexibility in what you read...so you get to dip your toes into reading challenges ;)

Wow Louise, I might have to overnight you some extra tissue for Me Before You and A Thousand Splendid Suns...you may have to refrain from reading in public ;) . Those both hit me hard, but good reads!
