The Chipmunks were so terrified by the number of teams reading horror & suspense that they accidentally hit the genre respin button, and ALL teams have a word linked to those two genres.
Teams with new genres should note that their word has NOT changed.
We'll be running a mini-challenge during Fright Week (5 - 12 July)!
Teams are on a scavenger hunt to round up Fright Week words, finding them in the title, text or cover (if it fits) of their books.
Teams can find up to 25 of the words, across the standard and tricky words.
All words must match, the only variations allowed are singular/plural, verb tenses (eg defenetrated) or different hyphenation. Tricky words must be found together as the phrase
Each word can only be found once
Only one word can be found per book read (though of course multiple people could read the book to find different words)

And we're ready to go!!!Hi team *waves*
I'm Sonia, and I'm your captain for this team challenge.
I'm from sunny Lisbon, and managed to read only 6 books this year. But fear not, my wheel record is pretty nice, so, I'll be back to my numbers in no time.
Our first word will be CHOCOLATE and the genre CLASSICS.Info will be put on the thread soon, but, I am quite happy to realize that books like Harry Potter, anything Tolkien, and Game of Thrones are now considered classics.
To earn us 50 bonus points, we'll need to read 10 of those, never forgetting that we need to use them for spells.
For the planners, there's a handy Planning Spreadsheet.
Feel free to claim letters as you want. Once you read the book, just add the read date, and Cathy and I will do our magic.
Hi everyone! I will be assisting Sonia with keeping everything organized & up to date :) If you have any questions, please make sure to let us know!I currently live in LA and work as an Office Manager at a law firm. There are days when I'll be busy during the day but do manage to pop in a couple times at least. Otherwise, I'm usually on GR later at night.
I read mostly anything and go thru my moods, but my favorite right now is Urban Fantasy. And I always have at least 2 (or 3) books going at the same time, ebooks & audios. I don't know how I went so long without audiobooks!
Look forward to playing with all of you!
*Waves*I read just about anything but I too really enjoy urban fantasy. I live in Oklahoma with my husband, son, 3 cats and 1 dog.
Hi team! I live in NY and am a researcher and lab manager. Summer is usually pretty slow so I think it'll be a perfect opportunity to list to a lot of audiobooks. I'm a mood reader and read almost everything except for nonfiction.
Yea NF is my least favorite genre though if I have to read it for a challenge, I will. Anything for the team ( though I might grumble thru it)!
I have one NF book on my shelf and I'm honestly been keeping it until I'm "required" to read it for some challenge or other ahhahha.
I don't mind NF, as long as the writing appeals to me. However, there's only 8 members on our team, meaning, someone will have to read at least two memoirs....Which means, unless we have fans out there, that word is a good candidate for a respin.
We never know what the crazy chipmunks have in store for us, but it can't be worse, right?
Hey guys! Greetings from Brussels, Belgium.I see a couple of familiar names here. Hey, nice to be working with you again! And, of course, I'm also happy to meet with new people! I'm sure we're going to have a lot of fun together.
Personally I read a bit of everything, but recently I've been reading a lot of MM Romances, my guilty pleasure. I also like to read fantasy, urban fantasy, YA and I've read quite a few scifi books recently. Like Rebecca, the exception for me would be non-fiction, but if we need to I'm sure I can make an exception for the team ;)
So classic's our first genre... I guess it's time for me to reread some Jane Austen. They've recently released an audiobook of Sense and Sensibility narrated by Rosamund Pike. I quite liked her narration of Pride and Prejudice, so I'm really looking forward to it.
Hello everyone! I live and work in Washington, D.C.. I love to travel, try new foods, and hang out with my pug. I'm an historian and while professional obligations have made it hard to read for pleasure the last few years, I've recently wrapped up some big projects and I'm enjoying getting back into fiction again. That being said, I do read (and enjoy!!) a lot of non-fiction, so I'm happy to carry the weight for the team on that category.
My other favs are romance, horror, and mystery. I'm really not a fan of contemporary fiction, but can usually find a book I can stomach if I need to for a challenge.
Looking forward to spending the summer with you ladies!
Hi team!! Very excited to be playing with everyone!I live in Maryland with my husband and our two dogs and three cats.
I enjoy reading different genres, some more than others. Sci-fi, fantasy, mystery are some of the faves and I don't mind non-fiction, I found I enjoy it more usually (and read much faster) in audio form :) And I will read just about anything for a challenge! :)
Sonia, Cathy, do you need links to our shelves?

I was thinking about reading an Austen book too, probably Emma because it looks like I haven't read that one yet. And it's part of the Romance pkg at Audible. Luckily we only need 10 for the whole group so it looks like we have a good start!

We'll all pitch in but you can be our NF queen :)

That is true - NF in audio form is actually better to me too.
And thanks for the reminder!
We now have 2 days/48 hours until the start of the game! (Countdown Timer)Please try to take this time to finish any currently reading books since they won't count (books can only be used if started after the start of the game). And if you know of any books that you will be reading (like any of the BOMS or books you have planned), please make sure to log them on our Planning Spreadsheet!

Emma is a great one to read. I think it's the first Jane Austen I read for my own pleasure, and not for school. My teen self took ages to read it, but I remember just loving it. Haha. I've reread it a couple of times since then. I just love Jane Austen. The only exception is Mansfield Park. I just can't stand Fanny.
Have you watched an adaptation Emma?

I need to finish The Ruin of Kings. I really like it so far. It's quite dense and sometimes a bit convoluted, but the writing is really good. I like the characters and the humour. But it's time I finish it. I also need to finish Second Grave on the Left, but that one should be done quickly.

I can't remember if I've watched Emma - only know the one starring Gweneth Paltrow. But have watched P&P of course and I think I did watch Mansfield park (that's the one where they put on the plays?).

That one sounds good, love to hear how it goes for you. And I love Charley so hope you have fun with that one!

That's right. Mansfield Park is the one where they put on the play deemed too scandalous. (nothing really happens in that play, but you know how they were in that period lol).
Emma has a few adaptations. My personal favourite is the one with Kate Beckinsale. But there's also a mini series by the BBC that is quite good. It has the actor who plays Sherlock from Elementary in it.
Pride and Prejudice are my favourite adaptations to watch. I just love the movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. I must have watched it a hundred times at least.

I'm enjoying Charley, but it's not exactly my favority UF series so far. I don't know, the humour doesn't always do it for me. And the whole reaper portal thing is a bit weird. But otherwise, it's okay. I'm still enjoying it.
Hi everyone! I’m Melissa! I live in GA. I’m a Stay at home mom to 4 kids, ages 7-14. Some days I’d rather be back at work, lol. We are on summer break right now so they are keeping me pretty busy right now going back and forth between football and camps. Super excited that Harry Potter is now a classic my 8, almost 9 year old is just getting into HP and we listened to the 1st 2 audio books on the way to Florida last week. He’s reading the 3rd book now. Can I read the 3rd book, I first read it over 15 years ago, for letter H (or one of the other letters if it will fit
better there?) Do I fill it in on the spreadsheet by myself?
I look forward to getting to know all of you!

You write in the title, your name as a reader, the page number and then the reason why it fits the letter. If it matches the genre put a Y in the Top Shelf column. And then if you know other letters it could fit you can also add that.

I'll put a link in one of the top messages. I need to fill up the posts. Just didn't had much time yet.
I love Emma! By far my favorite Jane Austen book. Give me Mr. Knightly over Darcy any day. :)I'm excited to head to the library on Friday to stock up. I also love this challenge for cleaning out my digital TBR on my kindle.
I saw that one of the possible genres we may get is Space Opera. My mind immediately went to Star Wars, but does that just really mean any Sci fi?
Rachel wrote: "I love Emma! By far my favorite Jane Austen book. Give me Mr. Knightly over Darcy any day. :)I'm excited to head to the library on Friday to stock up. I also love this challenge for cleaning out ..."
I wouldn't say so. Let's say, all space operas are scifi, but all scifi aren't necessarily space opera. I might be wrong, but to me space opera is any scifi futuristic book which takes place in space. There might be something more specific about it, I don't know. Scifi can also be on earth, like something about hightly developed technology, such as robots.
For the sake of the challenge the genre has to be on the top shelves's page on goodread. So we would need books which has "Space Opera" as main genre. For example, The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet trilogy which I loved. Or Children of Time, which I recently acquired and can't wait to read.
I haven't read Emma yet - maybe I'll have to go for that one next week! Will go look on Overdrive nowMy shelf is WOB shelf

I have never heard of space opera until this challenge. I just assumed sci-fi as well but then I saw it as a top shelf. Guess I'll cross that bridge when we get to that shade of brown
I haven't read Emma either but maybe this would be a good excuse to read it!I also had never heard of space opera until this challenge but I'm willing to read the genre.
I'm also leaving for Vegas on the 13th for a work training thing and won't be back til Saturday. I will have some time to read but not as much as I normally do.
Am I going to be overly ambitious if I hope to get HP, Dorian Gray, AND my book club book read during the “chocolate” week? I just looked at my calendar and realized book club is next week. So many books so little time
Here's my shelf - wheel-o-brown.Does Clueless count as Emma adaptation? :D I haven't read it yet either, but want to see first if I can fit it in the Right Side Up challenge :)
And I just checked, and Illuminae series qualify for Space Opera! I enjoyed the books quite a bit and I heard audio versions are pretty great as well.
