In joining this review group you are agreeing to review any book assigned to you within a two month time period. If you do not agree, please do not sign up below.

This is the Horror review group, which will include all types of books classified as horror. As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the book assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.

Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. If the review is positive (three stars or higher on Amazon), the review should be posted to Amazon as well, if the book is available there. This makes having accounts with both Goodreads and Amazon.com a requirement.

If a reviewer and the author agree that the review should not be posted to Goodreads due to quality issues, the reviewer is relieved of the requirement of posting the review. If this occurs in the first round, the second reviewer is relieved of the requirement to read and review the book. This is entirely at the discretion of the reviewer and is not intended in any way to manipulate the rating of any book.

Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work.

Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews.

If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.

If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.

L. Shosty Just novels, or do story collections/novellas apply as well?

I think we can be flexible about the format. If you want to volunteer a novella or a short story collection, that would be okay by me.

James McCormick I'd like to submit my short novel please (40,000 words).
The title is Balec and the blurb can be found at this Amazon link:

message 8: by L. (new)

L. Shosty That's a cool synopsis, James. It's reminiscent of the old Hammer horror films. I can't wait to read it.

message 9: by James (new)

James McCormick Thanks L
- I'm a massive Raymond Chandler and Dennis Wheatley fan and this one is basically a homage to these two giants (with a sort of Clive Barker third act)

Your kind words are much appreciated

James

message 10: by L. (new)

L. Shosty I'm a huge Chandler fan, myself.

Read the rules in the first post of this topic. If you agree to follow them, post your book title to this topic. (Preferably with an "add book" link, but not required.)

Once enough authors have signed up, a moderator will post the list and the schedule to this topic.

R.

Thank you, and I totally agree with the comments regarding the characters lacking a distinctive voice. Trying to get my head around that for my second book. LOL

L. Shosty My apologies for being late and not contacting you, R.

I've completed my reading of Balec, and James McCormick and I have mutually agreed not to post my review.

message 43: by P.T. (new)

P.T. (phronk) | 47 comments I'll be slightly late with my review of Balec. Sorry! I'm almost done and can't wait to read the rest, but I got busy.

message 44: by L. (new)

L. Shosty Yeah, I'm going to be a little late, too, with my review. Michael Hebler emailed me and said the same thing about his review of my book. April was a busy month for horror writers, it seems. : )

Shane Hall (shanehall) Hello! I'm a complete novice to this group, so please pardon me if I'm missing something, but I was just wondering when the next wave of reviews was starting up, and whether I could include my e-book within the drawing.

This looks like a cool group. I like the idea of it.

Shane:

Glad you like the group. This group will be ending soon. Since you showed interest in it, I will open sign up for a new group today. Look for a group-wide message that a new Horror review group is starting. Sign up as soon as you can, since these groups tend to fill up rather quickly.

Authors:

Just a reminder that the due date for second round reviews is tomorrow (5/2/2015). It is appreciated that those members of this group who are going to be late have posted notification to this group. If you are going to be late, please contact your assigned author to give him or her an estimate of when the review will be posted.

If you have not had a review by the due date and have not been contacted by the person assigned to review your book, please let me know.

R.

Michael Hebler (mhebler) | 9 comments I notified L. Joseph Shosty via email that I am running a little behind with his review of Swallow the Evil (which is a little embarrassing because it's a short collection of short stories) but I'll make it official by posting here as well. April was a busier month than expected. I hope to have my review up by tomorrow, Monday at the latest.
