I am always reading one physical book, one Nook book and listening to one audio book in my car. I adore audio books and certain readers can make a 1 star read graduate to 4 or or 5 stars. I have a lot of favorites and am happy to recommend to anyone who is looking to try them. :)
I've only listened to one, Ur by Stephen King. It was only 3 hours long or so. I rather read at my own pace, though.
I can read much, much faster than listening to a book, but if you listen to the right reader, you don't begrudge the time.
I have actually never heard of Ur before and I am a huge SK fan!
I have to admit it kind of upsets me that some books are only available in audio format.
I can understand how a good reader would influence it but I still am not sure I could fully concentrate on it while doing other things... Maybe while driving, I suppose.
Thank you for the tips!

UR is only available as an audio book because it's a bit like his story Word Processor of the Gods, but with an e-reader instead of a WP. Makes sense once you read it.I bet I can find a PDF and post a link for you.
I mistyped. I didn't mean to say UR was available only as an audio book, I meant to say NOT available as a "published on paper" book. You can download a PDF here:

Wow, you're really great at finding pdfs!
I think Word Processor of the Gods was part of a short story book because I remember reading it.
Thank you so much for the links!

I am crap at research on the computer with the exception of things I need to print for the book club I run at our library. I have discovered there is very little you can't find for free if it's not brand new.Obviously, I run a lot of copies! ;)
Well that's a great skill for sure. I wish there were book clubs around where I live. I have actually not met someone who enjoys reading as much as I do. Most people say they don't have time. But hey I always make time, even if only a few minutes before sleep.

But h..."Even though I attend two book clubs at the local library, (one is movie/book and the other is The Bucket List) I really have only one friend (that's not GR) that reads as much as I do. Between the two clubs there are about 25 members, but most of them read only the book for club that month. I read 2 or 3 books a week so can't imagine reading that little!
Like you said, everyone says they are too busy. Just like if you are generous you give, if you're a reader you read. Period.
I've posted on a few other topics to the group and I notice all my posts talk about audiobooks since that is practically the only way I "read" (which is to listen) so I figured I better say something on this thread! Here is my bookshelf of my Top 10 Favorite Audiobooks of all time and I try to revise it as I read new ones that knock down a previous one on the list. I'd love to hear what others consider their top favorite audiobooks so feel free to reply, I may pick up your recommendation!
The audio books I love the most have as much to do with the reader as the story. I've read a book and disliked it, only to later listen and fall in love.Campbell Scott and Ron McLarty are two of my favorites.
Hey guys, pardon my ignorance but I have never bought an audiobook and would like to ask you what format they come in? Is it only on cds? I don't really do long car rides and don't have a portable cd player; I do however have a portable mp3 player and was wondering if they are ever available as such? If so, I might actually go out on walks again!
I've only tried some Audiobooks on Audible. There's an app you can download on your phone, and you can play the audiobook from it.
I'm pretty sure they come in all kinds of format, CD, mp3, etc.
Readers more adept at audiobook will probably give you more answers.
When I buy audio books, it's always on CDs. I don;t have any long car rides, but I always listen to books as opposed to the radio, so it's amazing how quickly you can get through one. I also get a lot of books on CD from the library, so they are FREE! :DMy Nook has the ability to play downloaded audio books, but I haven't taken advantage of it. I used to have my son's download MP3 audio books from the library onto my iPod, but haven't in a long time. It's certainly possible, but I've never been the one to actually do it.
If you decide to try some audio books, I cannot stress enough how much of a difference a good reader makes. There are books I have been unable to finish on the page that I fell in love with simply due to the reader! Seriously.
Well to be honest I would only try it if I could listen to it on walks, it would be a motivation to get some exercise done.
I am curious, does this Audible application run with the phone blocked?

Blocking the screen, going to sleep, not sure what it's usually called when the phone is still on but the screen is black so you cannot misclik something and saves battery too?
Oh, OK. Yes, it still runs in this case. The app is free, as far as I remember (I haven't used it in ages), you can either havea free subscription trial for a month, or maybe even find some free books.
That was the reason I tried Audible, Gaiman was giving a free short story on it. There might be some other promotions.
I have never listened to an audio book, and I don't really intend to. I much prefer reading it myself.

UR (other topics)Word Processor of the Gods (other topics)

Personally, I have never never tried, but I think I would have trouble concentrating.
And you can't go back and forth as easily as other formats...
