I give Monster by Walter Dean Myers a 2 out of 5 because I really could not connect to the story as a whole. I loved the script style of the story, but otherwise I can't really say that the book interested me. I can't say that I've read too many stories that involved crime and the criminal justice system, but I think that Monster was a good precursor to what I might read next. Overall, I did not really like the story, but I might try reading another book in the drama and/or crime genre.
Monster is about Steven Harmon and his connection to a murder and robbery committed in a drug store. We can from the script style that Steven is writing a screenplay of the trial itself and through his little author inserts can we understand what he's really feeling. In the screenplay, we read what is said when Steven talks to his attorney, which provides an interesting side of the story.
