Diane  | 13052 comments Post your nominations here for the August group reads. A significant portion of the book must be set in the featured location. We will be reading a selection set in Greece, a translated book from a female writer, and a memoir from a writer from a Northern, Central, Southern, or Western Europe.

Women in Translation
Nominate a translated book from a Sino-Tibetan or Mongolic language that is written by a female author. Examples of some of the more common Sino-Tibetan and Mongolic languages include Achang, Amdolese, Bai, Balti, Bhutia, Bodo-Garo, Burmese, Burmish, Buryat, Cak, Daur, Dzongkha (Bhutanese), Gan, Hakka Chinese, Hokkien, Huizhou, Jin, Jingpho, Kadu, Kalmyk, Khams Tibetan, Ladakhi, Lanyin Mandarin, Lashi, Lhasa, Mandarin Chinese, Matsu, Min, Mongolian, Monguor, Mru, Nepali, Oirat, Old Chinese, Ordos, Pa'o, Pinghua, Santa, Sichuanese, Sikkimese, Tibetan, Wu, Xiang, Yue, Zhongyuan Mandarin. So basically, most of the languages in Baltistan, Bhutan, China, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Taiwan, Tibet, and the Indian state of Sikkim.

World Memoirs
Nominate a memoir or autobiography from one of the following countries in northern, central, southern, or western Europe: Aland Islands, Albania, Andorra, Austria, Azores, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Faeroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Jersey, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, North Macedonia (formerly "Macedonia"), Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or Vatican City. The book must be a non-fiction memoir and set in one of these countries/regions.

*For our featured world country selection (this month it is Greece): If the book selected by popular vote is not written by a native or resident author of at least 1 year, the book written by a native/resident author with the highest votes will also be selected, resulting in two book selections for that country.

Yay! I’ve wanted to read it for some time but haven’t let myself buy it yet. Here’s hoping our group gives me the nudge.
