I'm reading the Kindle edition and I'm a first-time visitor to The Old Kingdom. All I can say for now is that I wish I didn't have to work today so I could carry on, I keep having to stop at cliff-hangers to do boring things like get off the tube! So far it's gripping and magical and I'm seeing charter marks everywhere I look.

Kirsty Stanley (kirstyes) | 19 comments I've just finished Chapter 10 and I'm enjoying it so far. I was sad not to see more of the school but it makes sense that as she'd nearly finished she's heading off into the next part of her life. Moggat reminds me a bit of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, pretty sarcastic.
I like that aspects of Worldbuilding are thrown in when needed and not fully explained so that we are learning along with Sabriel.

Yes! I was disappointed that she left the school so early but loving The Old Kingdom so far and I totally agree with you about Mogget and Salem, I even imagined Mogget was a black cat at first!

Kirsty Stanley (kirstyes) | 19 comments Funny, I just watched the Epic Reads Tea Time video and they made the same link between Mogget and Salem.
Other things the book reminded me of were The Wall in Stardust and the gates in Death kept me picturing the gates in the Neverending Story film. Although there are no sphinxes.

I raced past chapter 10 without stopping to comment! So far lots of scary stuff (especially the Mordicant, yikes!). I definitely didn't expect Ancelstierre to be so modern! And I love how the Charter magic works, it's so much more precise than at lot of the magic I've read about before.
