I challenge you to read 4 historical books this year and add your choices here!

Patricia | 971 comments I am and I'm currently reading Star Spangled Scandal Sex, Murder, and the Trial that Changed America by Chris DeRose

I have a lot of kndle historical books in different genres I'm willing to loan to anyone in the group that's interested.

I think my next will be The Trial of Lizzie Borden by Cara Robertson

Having grown up in Connecticut Lizzie Borden was still talked about a lot. All of us as kids knew "Lizzie Borden took an axe..." by the time we were five at the oldest. 😂 We should all be a twisted lot because of growing up with Salem witches, Lizzie Borden, cemetary hauntings (actual proven ones less than mile from where I lived) etc. as common topics of discussion.

The Nathan Hale homestead was less than 5 miles from my house. We all would try to guess what tree they hung him from.

Strange we are all relatively normal. Not one witch, conjurer or serial killer in the bunch. There's a lot of us too because we were the last of the baby boomers.

Patricia | 971 comments Does anyone have a historical fiction favorite author (s)? My favorites are Philippa Gregory and Karen Harper. I'm always looking for someone new so any suggestions will be appreciated.

Lily (storytimewithlily) I read Secrets of the Tudor Court which is set in the time of King Henry VIII and follows Mary who has to deal with the intricacies of the Tudor court.
I liked it enough, it was well written so I do recommend it.

I also read A Woman's Place which is set during the time of the suffragette movement.
Didn't love this one as much. It has a great two thirds, but then kinda falls flat and just rambles on near the end unnecessarily.

For some reason I always go back to reading books about the Tudors. I'll read a couple of books that take place in other eras and then it's the Tudors again. I just found The Baker's Daughter, Volume 2 The second book of the Tudor Chronicles, Volume 2 by Bonny G Smith and bought both in this series because so little is written about "bloody Mary." I have a couple about Katherine Howard and Katherine Parr too. I'm searching for some about Ann of Cleves because she's really an unknown figure.
