Matthew wrote: "Starts today - and I am ready to go!"Me too! :) I plan on starting it this evening. I'm in the mood for some good sci-fi right now, I've been reading a lot of depressing dramas lately.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but 27 pages in and this is pretty darn interesting! It has a Ready Player One feel.
Yes, I totally agree with that. I'm also wondering if I had read this in 1992, would I be chuckling as much over certain things as I am now (Bimbo boxes for example?! Ha!!)?
I'm almost 7 hours into the 17 hour audiobook of this one. I'm on the fence. Not really sure where it's supposed to be going and I'm struggling to keep interested. Hoping it turns around for me soon.
Finally finished. I was not a fan, honestly. Found myself tuning out of the audiobook very often and having to rewind. Curious what everyone else thinks.I did get a giggle out of the Moby Dick reference, since we're also reading that! And Raven made me think of Queequeg. But that could just be because their narrated voices are similar.
I was planning on listening to the audiobook when I read quite a few reviews that suggested I should read the book instead. So I went that route and I just started the ebook yesterday. I've read about 10% of the book and it's weird. I haven't decided if I will love it or hate it, but it's interesting for now.

Though the pizza delivery at the beginning really confused me at first. But I've just been introduced to the "plugged in" world and that definitely reminds me of RP1.
Okay, so I'm about 23% through with the book and I'm a bit confused. How could Hiro be in the Metaverse having a sword fight with the businessman and at the same time be in the real world breaking YT out of the Clink?

I think for a bit there is some incongruity in time frame from chapter to chapter. I am a bit farther along in the book, and the chapters have been fairly consistent in time for a bit.

Okay, that's good to know! So there is definitely some time overlapping. It was a really weird start, but I'm starting to "get" the feel of the universe at this point. Not sure how much I like this book, but I definitely don't hate it, ha! It's interesting.

I am enjoying it a lot, but it is very easy to see why some people wouldn't - or would at least struggle to enjoy it.

But I'm sure I'm also missing a lot of cultural references that would probably add to my enjoyment of the book. But rather than letting that get me down, I'm enjoying what I can about it.
Took me awhile, but I'm back on this and am about 80% complete. I should be able to finish this today or tomorrow, so barely in time, lol. I definitely like some of it, even if some of it is just plain weird.

I have tabled it for a bit because of another buddy ready happening where my buddies are flying through the book!
